When Clive shook metaphorical hands with Ceri after their goalless draw this week he couldn't have imagined that his points lead would have been extended but that's exactly what happened. It was a nervy performance from Claymore with Final Fantasy spending most of the time on the front foot, Yaya Toure looked the most likely to break the deadlock but the game finished 0-0. Once again though Clive's rivals slipped up and one win from his last two matches will get the job done. Highlighting how odd this season has been the Aardvarks are up to second after winning only on of their last six games. This week Ady's team had to come from behind twice to grab a point against San Dimas. Vincent Kompany's header right on half-time equalised Joe Allen's early deflected shot and just when Kyle Walker's excellent free-kick looked to have got me all the points Kompany came up with the levelling clean.
There was a third straight defeat for Trusted, this time to Nil Satis. Nikica Jelavic put Paul ahead from the spot on seven minutes but Victor Moses had scored twice to put Beef in front by the quarter hour mark. Jelavic struck again at the near post five minutes before the break to square the match and Nil Satis got the winner on the hour through Tim Cahill. If that was a blow for Beef what about the scoreline for the Artisans? Ben's team were thumped 5-0 by the bottom-placed Mega Bucks who had lost their previous nine. It was a tame effort by the Artisans who were handed their biggest defeat of the season with Steven Fletcher, Matt Jarvis twice and Djibril Cisse putting Ben's defence to the sword. Dave has a chance of avoiding last place but he'll need to find at least one more win.
Athletico Phoenix have kept themselves in with an outside chance of the title (see this week's fixtures) by picking up a 6-2 win over the Cheese Makers. Brian's team had looked to be already on the beach in recent weeks but he inspired his defence to four clean sheets to get the points after four goals were shared in the first half. Robin van Persie got back on the scoresheet for Brian but the pick of the goals was Franco Di Santo's for Matthew. The CFJs are still on a charge and they also picked up a 6-2 win, over Boston Rock. Sheriff was two up on 15 minutes through John Terry and Nathan Dyer but Luis Suarez led the fightback and when he completed his hat-trick eight minutes from time the CFJs were 4-2 in front and two cleans finished the job. (Incidentally why are people raving over Suarez' last goa?. Surely any professional footballer worth his salt should be able to kick a ball into an empty net from 50 yards?)
There was another hat-trick this week and it came from the unlikely boot of Fernando Torres as Fred beat the Muppets 4-3. Ryan had taken just 47 seconds to open the scoring through Danny Sturridge but Torres and Rafa van der Vaart had Fred 3-1 up at the break. James McClean and Florent Malouda did notch for the Muppets in the second half but Fred was always a goal to the good. Kevin Davies doesn't get so much of a run out for the Parrots these days but he inspired Dean's team to an easy win over York's. Julian had been in front early through Peter Crouch but a brace from Davies turned the tide and Dean closed the game out with three clean sheets.
