Report
San Dimas were bidding to win the trophy for the fourth time while the Wateringhole were looking to add the FA Cup to the Charity Shield they picked up in December, and it was Kiran's team that made the fast start.
Marcus Rashford hit the far post in the first minute and Cody Gakpo went close with an acrobatic effort before ten minutes had passed. It felt like a goal was coming and the only surprise was it took 18 minutes, when Rashford calmly converted a penalty.
San Dimas could not get a foothold in the game and a second followed on 34 minutes as Cody Gakpo* controlled and shot into the far corner from 15 yards.
The Saints needed a response after the break and they got one on 56 minutes. A far post cross reached Dan Burn who put himself, a defender and the ball in the net from a couple of yards out.
Any chance of a comeback was ended by the Wateringhole's excellent Kaoru Mitoma. He lost his marker Max Kilman and had space for an easy header to make it 3-1. Marc Cucurella's clean followed to round off the emphatic win.
The Wateringhole Society become the first team to win the Charity Shield and FA Cup in the same season and will now continue their bid for the league title to turn that into a treble.
*Gakpo becomes the fourth player to notch a counter for winning sides in two cup finals in the same season. Darren Bent did it for You Know Your Boston Rock FC in 2009/2010, Jermain Defoe and Alfie Mawson did it for Fred West in 2016/17. (I've only looked at the winners, there's only so much time I can spend on this!)
