2019/20 Co-Ord Round-up Part Eight - 1st-4th
1st: Trusted By Millions (up 13 places on last season)
Eventually a big turnaround after last season's poor showing. Twelfth after week 11 with half the points of the leaders then only lost three league games after that. That level of consistency ground down and eventually saw off the other contenders. It’s Beef’s third title and coincidentally each one of them has been secured on the last day of the season.
What happened to last year's star player? It was another good season for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Star Player? Gabriel Jesus (12 goals)
2nd: Stanley Athletic FC (up one place)
Taking over from Athletico Phoenix in mid-season new boss Aaron made the FA Cup semi-final came close to taking the title. Will surely be a formidable opponent next season.
What happened to last year's star player? He was this year's Star Player too.
Star Player? Virgil van Dijk (five goals, 13 cleans)
3rd: Claymore Athletic FC (up six places)
A big improvement on last season, the PCMT and the FA Cup on the Chippenham Park sideboard but it could have been better. Seemed set for the treble but a seven point pre-lockdown lead wasn’t enough after Sergio Aguero was injured.
What happened to last year's star player? He made it his again for the sixth straight year.
Star Player? Sergio Aguero (18 goals)
4th: Aardvark Abacus (down two)
Still in the top echelons but 'never nearer' as they say in horse-racing. A late charge fell six points short but Ady will go into next season in optimistic mood after his post-lockdown form.
What happened to last year's star player? Jordan Pickford had competition from Dean Henderson.
Star Player? Son Heung-Min (Ten goals)
2019/20 Co-Ord Round-up Part Seven - 5th-8th
5th: The Fabulous Artisans (Up one place on last season)
A superb first-half of the season raised expectations of a first title going to Goddard Park. A shocking run of one win in 11 games in the New Year put paid to those thoughts.
What Happened to last year's Star Player? Third year in a row for...
Star Player: Kyle Walker (two goals, 14 clean sheets)
6th: Real Muppets (down two places)
No team finished the season stronger than the Muppets. If Ryan can add another striker (or get a tune out of record signing Sebastian Haller) he could be at the sharp end next season.
What Happened to last year's Star Player(s)? Good contributions from Sadio Mane and Ederson but not enough to beat...
Star Player: Raheem Sterling (17 goals)
7th: Mega Buck Bandits (up six places on last season)
A first top half finish for 12 seasons and their highest position for 17. Will be desperate to hang on to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who did much of the damage for Dave's team.
What Happened to last year's Star Player? Same player, same number of goals.
Star Player: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (20 goals)
8th: San Dimas High School (same place)
Very ordinary, securing a top-half place with a last day win for the second straight year. My team now the definition of mid-table obscurity, finishing seventh or eighth in the last five seasons.
What Happened to last year's Star Player? Antonio Rudiger was a bit injured, a bit not as good.
Star Player: John Lundstram (three goals, eight cleans)

2019/20 Co-Ord Round-up Part Six - 9th-12th
9th: YTFIB (up seven places on last season)
A brilliant campaign built on a strong defence and just missed out on a deserved top half finish. It’s still Julian’s best finishing position and highest points total. Manager of the Season?
What happened to last year's Star Player? Ricardo Pereira missed a chunk of the campaign through injury.
Star Player? Nick Pope (14 clean sheets)
10th: Cheese Makers (up two)
Missed out on a first top-half finish for four seasons with a last day defeat. Building slowly and wisely (see Star Player) and it won’t take much for them to improve again.
What happened to last year's Star Player? Andrew Robertson had another good season but not as good as...
Star Player? Danny Ings (19 goals)
11th: The Wateringhole Society (down eight)
Fell back from last year’s excellent fifth place. Kiran’s team is packed with attacking talent (Rashford, Jimenez, Pulisic) but now might need tightening up at the back a bit.
What happened to last year's Star Player? It was a more difficult year for Nathan Ake.
Star Player? Raul Jimenez (14 goals)
12th: Fred West Landscape Gardening XI (down eleven)
Atrocious title defence but mid-season signings of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood led to a big improvement in form. A lot to look forward to and unlikely to be languishing next terme.
What happened to last year's Star Player? Was also this year's Star Player.
Star Player? Mo Salah (15 goals)

My annual assessment of the WSFFL teams starts with the bottom four.
13th: The Cow-Faced Juniors (down two places on last season)
The champions two years ago were left short of strikers again with Morata and Sanchez out on loan and were consigned to a second straight bottom half finish.
What happened to last year's Star Player? Injury robbed Aymeric Laporte of a repeat performance.
Star Player? Tammy Abraham (13 goals)
14th: Wheel Madrid (down four)
One of the best teams in the first half of the season and the worst in the second. Injuries to Maddison and McGinn didn’t help but Jamie Vardy can’t do it all on his own.
What happened to last year's Star Player? He got even better and was this year's MVP.
Star Player? Jamie Vardy (23 goals)
15th: Nil Satis Nisi Optimum (down eight)
Fell back from seventh last season to end up in the bottom two for the first time in six seasons.. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Rui Patricio and Matt Doherty need support.
What happened to last year's Star Player? The hands-off management style kept Marcos Alonso out of the team for much of the season.

(All awards are made on basis of contributions in all WSFFL competitions. Where there is a tie, contributions in league matches take precedence. Then I'll try to separate them by goals scored. Then by lower transfer fee. If you see two or more names in a position I still couldn't split them.)

The evergreen striker is still doing it at 33. It would be a brave person who ruled him out of being in the shake-up again next year. (Or a stupid one, like Peej who sold him to Wheels for £9m in February 2017.)
Golden Gloves:
Kasper Schmeichel (Claymore Athletic FC) 13 cleans, two saved penalties
A first win for Schmeichel who's done well to pick up this award while playing for a manager who shares his starting places around depending on kick-off times and opponents.
Defender of the Season:
Virgil van Dijk (Stanley Athletic FC) Five goals, 13 clean sheets
He might not have won the big prize again this year but the Dutchman was still the league's top defender.
Midfielder of the Season and £500k player of the Season:

2019/20 Co-Ord Round-up Part One - Transfer Dealings
(These figures have been skewed a bit because of the season running into the transfer window. Some of the figures might be wrong too. If they are it won't be by much though.)
Expenditure
After last year's figures were down due to the auction draft we returned to more expected levels. We shelled out over FF£730m between us.
Only three teams spent less than £35m, one spent more than £80m while the season expenditure record was smashed by one team and now stands at over £130m
Income
It was the year of the second-highest overall income too at over £745m. The team that spent the most also recouped the most - more than they spent in fact. One more team earned more than £100m from player sales, three more were over £60m.
Four teams brought in less than £20m each.
Overall
For the first time since I've been keeping records (the 2006/7 season) collectively we turned in a profit. Ok it was less than £10m but a profit nonetheless.
Five teams made profits, 3 sizeable - 2 negligible. Of the loss-making sides only three were over £20m in the red.
Over the last three seasons our collective net spend is only around £32m.
Since 2006/7 our gross player spend is now just short of FF£8bn!

Only three teams spent less than £35m, one spent more than £80m while the season expenditure record was smashed by one team and now stands at over £130m
Income
It was the year of the second-highest overall income too at over £745m. The team that spent the most also recouped the most - more than they spent in fact. One more team earned more than £100m from player sales, three more were over £60m.
Four teams brought in less than £20m each.
Overall
For the first time since I've been keeping records (the 2006/7 season) collectively we turned in a profit. Ok it was less than £10m but a profit nonetheless.
Five teams made profits, 3 sizeable - 2 negligible. Of the loss-making sides only three were over £20m in the red.
Over the last three seasons our collective net spend is only around £32m.
Since 2006/7 our gross player spend is now just short of FF£8bn!

Week 30 Results - Trusted take the title

Well, we got there! And Trusted got there best of all.
It’s Beef’s third title and coincidentally each one of them has been secured on the last day of the season. This one was sealed with a comfortable 2-0 win at the CFJs. Realistically only needing a point, Gabriel Jesus settled the Trusted nerves on 11 minutes. Jeff Schlupp got the second after 53 minutes and the celebrations could start. Beef was 12th after week 11 with half the points of the leaders but only lost three league games after that. That level of consistency ground down and eventually saw off the other contenders. The CFJs, champions two years ago, were left short of strikers when Morata and Sanchez went out on loan and were consigned to a second straight bottom half finish.
Stanley Athletic did what they could with a 4-1 win over the Aardvarks but had to settle for the runner-up spot. Ady had the lead through Kieran Tierney but Aaron’s team turned that round before the break with a Virgil van Dijk header and a Chris Wood strike. Lindelof and Maguire got cleans to make the win emphatic. Aaron could be a formidable opponent in his first full season. The Aardvarks late charge fell six points short but Ady will go into next season in optimistic mood after his post-lockdown form improvement.
Claymore finished third after a 1-1 draw with Wheel Madrid. Olivier Giroud opened the scoring for Clive, but the title was gone when Jack Grealish equalised for Paul with six minutes left. Claymore seemed set for the treble but a seven point pre-lockdown lead wasn’t enough after Sergio Aguero was injured. A Cup Double is an excellent season but it could have been legendary. Wheel Madrid were one of the best teams in the first half of the season and the worst in the second. Injuries to Maddison and McGinn didn’t help but Jamie Vardy can’t do it all on his own.
The Artisans brushed aside the Wateringhole 4-0 to seal fifth place for Ben. Mason Mount’s great free-kick in first half injury time gave the Artisans the lead and Divock Origi struck on the hour to make it two. Walker and Williams doubled the final score with cleans. Ben will be kicking himself that a first title might have been in his grasp if it hadn’t been for a shocking run of one win in 11 after that. The Wateringhole Society fell back from last year’s excellent fifth place. Kiran’s team is packed with attacking talent but now might need tightening up at the back a bit.
No team finished the season stronger than the Muppets and Ryan’s team fired another six past YTFIB. Kevin De Bruyne (2), Raheem Sterling and Sadio Mane were all on the scoresheet again. If Ryan can add another striker (or get Sebastian Haller back fit and starting) there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be at the sharp end next season. YTFIB had a brilliant campaign and just missed out on a deserved top half finish. It’s still Julian’s best finishing position and highest points total. Manager of the Season?
P-E Aubameyang has done much of the damage for Dave in this campaign and got both goals in the 2-1 win over Nil Satis. It meant Mega Bucks had their first top half finish for 12 seasons and their highest position for 17. Nil Satis fell back from seventh last season to end up in the bottom two for the first time in six seasons.. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Rui Patricio and Matt Doherty need support.
San Dimas nicked the last top-half place with a 3-0 win over beleaguered Markian. Dwight Gayle scored in the first 30 seconds, Rudiger and Cancelo added cleans. My team are now the definition of mid-table obscurity, finishing seventh or eighth in the last five seasons. Whether there’s been one or two people in charge Markian have been a rudderless ship for most of the season. This defeat added more unwanted records (fewest goals scored, biggest gap to 15th, worst goal difference) to the Hall of Shame.
Cheese Makers missed out on a first top-half finish for four seasons with a 6-3 defeat to Fred. Goals in the last ten minutes from Junior Stanislas and Danny Ings from the spot had Matthew 3-2 up but Fred had cleans from Azpilicueta, Wan-Bissaka, Zouma and Dawson. Fred’s title defence has been a poor one but mid-season signings of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood mean, as with the Muppets, there’s a lot to look forward to. Cheese Makers are building slowly and wisely and it won’t take much for them to improve again.
