We're a couple of weeks from learning the identity of the first WSFFL Player of the Month - let's take a look at the (very) early contenders...

Riyad Mahrez has been in super form for the Phoenix with three goals in two games but teammate Nathan Redmond can't be far down the pecking order either and must be on the verge of an England call. Claymore's players have been spreading the 'counters' around but Ross Barkley is perhaps their leading contender despite sitting out the comfortable win over Cheese Makers.

Bafetimbi Gomis has been leading the line well for Nil Satis but frankly I'd disqualify him for that celebration. Ceri's team might have been on the wrong end of a heavy defeat but Yaya Toure is probably still in the shake-up.  Romelu Lukaku can look unstoppable when he's in the mood as The Wateringhole Society found out this week but needs to do it more regularly. Andre Ayew got another goal in a losing effort and looked a right handful for Kiran's team so is not without a chance.

Defenders don't always get the credit they deserve so Eliaquim Mangala (Fred), Joe Gomez (YTFIB), Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling (FCK2), Nathaniel Clyne for the Cheesers in their defeat which the manager has taken pretty hard, Matteo Darmian (Artisans) and, despite sitting this week's game out (oops!) Vincent Kompany (Aardvarks) will have to be considered.

The CFJs, Mega Bucks and Muppets are looking for their players to make a consistent impression while Trusted are still waiting for their first 'counter' of the season.
