Cup quarter-final results

Paul Cartmell Memorial Trophy

Athletico Phoenix 1 v 0 Fred West Landscape Gardening XI
Claymore Athletic FC 9 v 0 Nil Satis Nisi Optimum
FCK2 1 v 5 Aardvark Abacus
Real Muppets 2 v 4 San Dimas High School

Sergio Aguero in Golden Boot mood this week. The holders are through to the last four too.

I'd normally start with the holders but I probably ought to defer to Claymore this week.

Clive's 9-0 win, driven by Sergio Aguero's five in 20 minutes, is his biggest win since records began*. It is the biggest margin win in a Cup match, the most goals scored by one team in the PCMT and equals the biggest margin in any WSFFL game. More importantly for Clive it's the first time he's got past the quarters since the 2007/8. One team with a decent record in this competition are San Dimas and they made it four years in a row of reaching at least the semis. After blowing a four goal lead against Clive last week I was starting to get concerned when Ryan reduced a 3-0 deficit to 3-2 in seven minutes but a Yannick Bolasie header on 68 minutes saw me home.

Athletico and Fred fought out a 1-1 draw in the league last week and it was close again this week. Carl Jenkinson was Brian's unlikely hero, nodding in in first half injury time for the game's only goal. FCK2 and the Aardvarks was close for a bit before Ady ran away with it. Harry Kane lashed into his own net on the half hour and Sean Davis and that man Odion Ighalo had added to the lead by the break. Heurelho Gomes' saved penalty came too late to influence the result.

Charity Shield

Cheese Makers 1 v 2 The Fabulous Artisans
The Cow-Faced Juniors 4 v 1 Mega Buck Bandits
The Wateringhole Society 2 v 0 Final Fantasy XI
Trusted By Millions 0 v 1 YTFIB

Father v son final perhaps?

Not so many goals in this competition but part of that was down to Chris keeping Alexis Sanchez on the bench and leaving out Graziano Pelle against Mega Bucks. After an early burst of goals left him 2-1 up after 10 minutes there was no more scoring until two cleans proved too much for Dave. Jeremain Lens opened his WSFFL account with a delightful chip for Cheese Makers but his sending off in the second period left his team vulnerable. Two free-kick goals from Christian Eriksen took Ben through.

Kiran got back to winning ways with victory over Final Fantasy. August Player of the Month Andre Ayew had gone a bit quiet but he opened the scoring and an Erik Pieters clean clinched it. Another team that had been waiting for a win were YTFIB. They got one against Trusted courtesy of Marco Arnautovic's goal ten minutes after half-time.
