Match of the Week

September’s Manager(s) of the Month taking on the league leaders, the season is warming up. The game was everything we wanted too with goals and controversy.

The first goal came on 35 minutes. The CFJs broke quickly and Nacer Chadli continued his recent run of good form with a calm finish, sliding the ball int the far corner. The Muppets were missing midfield maestro Kevin de Bruyne and low were on chance creation but pulled level six minutes after the break. Christian Stan’s header looked to have been hacked off the line but the goal decision system showed it was over. Parity lasted just 10 minutes before the CFJs were in front again. Willian’s excellent curling shot to the far corner making it 2-1. It was injury time when the game changed. Up for a desperate last minute corner Laurent Koscielny seemed to deflect a shot into the net with his arm from an offside position but the goals stood. As Chris was still lambasting the officials the Frenchman added a clean and it ended 3-2 to Ryan’s team. He’s now three points clear.

Elsewhere in the league

The Phoenix are second after defeating Champions Claymore. A magnificent Ricky Villa-esque mazy run and shot from Diego Payet put Clive ahead on the hour but Diego Costa got Brian level shortly after and Jan Vertonghen secured the points for Athletico. Fred edged out the Cheese Makers to climb to third. Dele Alli benefited from a superb pass to put Fred in front but he needed a Cesar Azpilicueta clean to get all three points after Troy Deeney equalised for Matthew.

Wheels had gone without a win since the second game but saw off FCK2 2-0 to start going the right way again. A Callum Wilson header and David Luiz clean sending him to fifth. The Aardvarks and San Dimas played out a 1-1 draw. Romelu Lukaku scored his first WSFFL free-kick to open the scoring ten minutes before the break but Nacho Monreal’s clean stopped me leaving with all the points.

Trusted are vying for ‘inconsistent team of the season’ and went down 2-1 to Mega Bucks. Beef trailed to Leroy Fer’s goal early on but Isaac Success opened his WSFFL account on 65 minutes to level. A Wes Morgan clean was Dave’s winner. Kiran has learnt everything he knows about WSFFL from Ben. Only Ben hasn’t taught Kiran everything he knows. (That phrase works much better spoken than written down). Level at half-time, the Artisans eased away with goals from Firmino, Benteke and goal and a clean rom Patrick van Aanholt. Do we need a new term for that? Is it a glean? Nil Satis were one up at YTFIB thanks to a Claudio Bravo penalty save but ended up 2-1 losers with Joe Allen and James Milner (from the spot) scoring in the last ten minutes for Julian.
