The Muppets top our table in the first international break of the season thanks to a narrow win over YTFIB. Raheem Sterling’s 97th minute effort taking the game out of Julian’s reach. San Dimas are the only other team with a 100% win record. Charlie Daniels was my hero with an early half-volley screaming effort that decided the game against Nil Satis.

Fred and the CFJs occupy third and fourth after their draw. Chris got two just before the break, Tammy Abraham opening his account, while Fred got two not long after to share the points. Wheel Madrid saw off the Wateringhole Society with thanks to cleans from Matip and Luiz.

The Aardvarks and Mega Bucks played out a goalless draw. Ady is still unbeaten, Dave still without a win. Athletico and Claymore are next to each other in the middle of the table after their draw. Fabregas scored for Clive, Jordan Ayew for Brian.

Trusted beat managerless (but not for long) FCK2 2-0 with contributions from indie dance band Jesus Jones. Sorry, Jesus and Jones. Matthew predicted that his game against the Artisans would be well down in the report. He was right. And beaten thanks to Femenia and Yoshida cleans for Ben.

A second comfortable win for the Muppets keeps them on top of the pile. Shine Okazaki was on target after just 52 seconds against FCK2 and Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling added late goals to keep Kevin pointless. I hope Paul S isn’t getting a nosebleed as his team’s high position. He’s yet to conceded too after thumping YTFIB 3-0. Marcos Alonso opened the scoring with a great free-kick on 24 minutes but the other goals came late on. Paul Pogba scored the second on 82 minutes and Alonso beat Julian’s keeper at the near post to round things off six minutes later.

Fred edged out Wheel Madrid to stay third, a Kurt Zouma clean the only score of the game, and it was a similar story for the CFJs who beat Mega Bucks 1-0 courtesy of a Geoff Cameron clean. San Dimas are fifth after a win at Claymore. Dusan Tadic’s penalty saw Clive take the lead but Eric Bailly poked over from no distance at all as half-time approached and then got the deciding clean sheet. I’m the last placed of the two wins out of two teams, the last unbeaten team are the Aardvarks. Ady needed a clean from Daley Blind to grab a point against Cheese Makers after Michy Batshuayi’s headed own goal had put Matthew in front with eight minutes left. The Cheesers’ cause not help by Morgan Schneidetrlin’s late red card.

If it was sendings off you wanted then the Goddard Park clash between the Artisans and Athletico was the game for you. Marko Arnautovic only lasted 33 minutes before a stray elbow saw him depart but Ben’s numerical advantage only lasted 11 minutes before Kyle Walker was also taking an early bath. Ten against ten seemed to suit Brian. Harry Maguire with a goal and a clean, Anthony Martial’s last strike and a clean from Ashley Williams made it a comfortable 4-0 win for the Phoenix and sends last year’s runner-up to the foot of the table. Trusted are also two defeats from two following a loss to the Wateringhole Society. Manolo Gabbiadini bagged his first of the season but Kiran’s recent signing Aaron Mooy stole the headlines with a great curling shot five minutes after the break. Beef could only muster a Phil Jones clean in response.

Last season’s champions looked tidy in beating Trusted 3-0 on the opening day of the campaign. Fred did well with relative unknown Alfie Mawson last year, perhaps Ahmed Hegazi will fill that role this year. The Egyptian opened the scoring on the half hour before the better known Mo Salah and Dele Alli added further goals in the second half. Fred has to be content with second though as the Muppets went one better against the Wateringhole Society. First half goals from Okazaki, Mane and Steven Ward for Ryan’s team had this one won early on and will have Kiran pondering his next transfer moves (see below.)

We can always rely on the Aardvarks to blow hot and cold and this was a hot week, defensively anyway. Ady’s team trailed to Roberto Firmino’s penalty for the Artisans but Stephens and Kompany cleans turned it into a 3-1 win and third place in the fledgling table. Claymore were on the back-foot against YTFIB for quite a while before coming through. Joel Ward put through is own net to hand Julian an early lead and there were only 20 minutes left when Sergio Aguero found room to equalise. Olivier Giroud and Manuel (or is it Miguel?) Britos added late headers to give Clive’s team the win. (Vokes 2, Mounie 2 and Rooney all scored for the Claymore reserves this week - ominous.)

Two goals in a minute gave the CFJs a win at Cheese Makers. Record signing Alvaro Morata notched from close range on 69 minutes, Ben Davies did similar a minute later. Nil Satis also won by a 2-0 scoreline, at FCK2. New signing Danilo went off with a clean in the bank on 68 minutes, Paul Pogba rifled home on the final whistle to double the lead after Harry Kane had hit a post for Kevin.

Romelu Lukaku picked up where he left off last season, scoring twice in my 3-2 over Athletico. Danny Welbeck bundled in the other which was just as well as Brian came back with cleans from Williams and Soares. Did I let Jamie Vardy go too soon? Possibly. He also got two this week for Wheel Madrid in Paul’s 3-2 win over Mega Bucks. David Luiz got the other one before Dave replied with a couple of cleans.
