FA Cup Semi-final results

Markian United 1 v 1 Claymore Athletic FC
The Cow-Faced Juniors 1 v 1 San Dimas High School

Nothing settled in either tie. Neither game was that eventful either. Youri Tielemans rolled into an empty net to put Claymore ahead but Markian were level inside five minutes when Harry Kane had time to control and fire through the keeper’s legs - and that was it. San Dimas left it late to grab a draw at the CFJs. Victor Camarasa put the Howells in front seven minutes into the second half, bundling in at the far post. The equaliser came from a Charlie Daniels clean.

Claymore seem to have saved their best for the Cup this season. Clive’s team won 6-0 in the quarters and added a 5-0 win over Markian in the semi. Sergio Aguero (who else?) opened the scoring in the first half, Abdoulaye Doucoure added a second on 90 minutes and then the roof fell in on Markian as the Swordsmen added three clean sheets.

The other semi was much tighter and settled by a single goal. And what a goal. Victor Camarasa struck a sweet volley early in the second half to send the CFJs through. They’ve been beaten in four finals before - fifth time lucky?

Ady’s great run in the league continues and maintains his two-point lead over Fred. The Aardvarks were first on the scoresheet against Trusted when Jordan Pickford saved a penalty after half an hour. Anthony Knockaert’s brilliant curling in-off-the-post strike levelled the game with 16 minutes left but a clean from Chris Mepham gave Ady the win. Fred left it late to get the win (over Nil Satis) too. Dominic Calvert-Lewin glanced Paul S ahead on 18 minutes and it took until the 65th before Solomon Rondon’s volley brought the scores level. Injury time brought Fred an excellent Eden Hazard goal, a Paul Dummett clean, and the points.

Kiran stays third after a win at Markian. Harry Kane put the home side ahead but the Mighty Society levelled on 56 minutes when Raul Jimenez’s shot was deflected in. Cleans from Bernd Leno and Nathan Ake made it 3-1 to Kiran and he has a four point cushion over fourth. That spot is held (this week) by the Muppets who crushed YTFIB 7-0. It was just 1-0 at the break courtesy of Sadio Mane but the sky fell in for Julian after half-time. Raheem Sterling scored a hat-trick (the first caused some offside confusion), Luka Milivojevic added yet another penalty to his collection, Mane got his second and Laurent Koscielny bagged a clean.

Athletico were held 1-1 by Claymore and are fifth. Youri Tielemans opened the scoring for Clive and Brian had to wait until the 81st minute for a superb free-kick equaliser from James Ward-Prowse. San Dimas crashed 3-0 at home to Cheese Makers. Glenn Murray latched on to a defensive mistake after 15 minutes to give Matthew the lead and he was barely troubled after. Ryan Fraser had the freedom of the penalty area to make it two after 66 minutes and Nathaniel Clyne rounded off the win with a clean.

The Artisans consolidated their place in the top half with a 3-1 win over Mega Bucks. Roberto Firmino got an early tap-in opener for Ben, Gerard Deulofeu doubled the lead on 66 minutes and Firmino added his second straight after to make it 3-0. P-E Aubameyang pulled one back for Dave from the spot two minutes later but there was no further scoring. Wheel Madrid are making a late charge for the top half too. Paul W’s team fell behind to Victor Camarasa’s 52nd minute goal for the CFJs but the game completely turned round in a late nine minute burst. Jamie Vardy scored twice in that time while Ayoze Perez only needed four minutes for his two goals. Neil Etheridge got a clean to make it 5-1 and send the Stratton Park faithful home happy.

Ady keeps his two point advantage after beating Markian 3-1. The Aardvarks were two up in little more than a quarter of an hour thanks to Declan Rice’s header and Diogo Jota finishing off an intricate team move. Harry Kane’s penalty pulled one back but Lewis Dunk’s clean saw the leaders home. Fred kept the pressure on with a 2-0 victory against Claymore. This was petering out into a goalless draw before Hugo Lloris saved his second penalty of the campaign to put Fred ahead a minute into injury time and Ruben Vinagre quickly clinched the points with a clean.

The Wateringhole Society are back in third following a win over the Muppets. Kiran took the lead when his team worked space for Raul Jimenez to fire in after 18 minutes and the advantage was doubled on 53 through Andreas Pereira’s screamer. Angelo Ogbonna’s clean in reply wasn’t enough for Ryan’s team.  San Dimas are up to fourth thanks to a win at Athletico. Gonzalo Higuain’s smart finish on 20 minutes was his first WSFFL goal for Brian but my team had turned it round by the hour mark. Riyad Mahrez squeezed a shot in at the near post (against his former club) and Romelu Lukaku notched soon afterwards. James Ward-Prowse added another excellent free-kick to his highlight reel to get Brian back on terms but Lukaku’s first time finish two minutes from time put me back in front and Willy Boly closed it out with a clean sheet.

Nil Satis will miss Aaron Ransey when the midfielder moves on at the end of the season. He put Paul S in front against the CFJs after running clear and rounding the keeper after 16 minutes. Paul Pogba had a chance to wrap it up from the spot deep into injury time but missed so it was good for Paul that Seamus Coleman got the clean to make it 2-0. Chris and Co’s title defence has;t been much of a defence. At le Stade Fromage Troy Deeney’s early flick header came close to giving Matthew the win against the Artisans but Ben’s team grabbed a share of the points with Bernardo’s clean sheet.

After an awful February (three defeats, one goal for, 16 conceded) Julian was looking for his YTFIB team to provide a reaction against Wheel Madrid. Phil Bardsley shinning one into his own net after 15 minutes probably wasn’t the reaction he was looking for. Jorginho made it two for Paul W with an excellent finish from just outside the area and Jamie Vardy got a Jamie Vardy goal to make it 3-0 with 15 minutes left. Florin Andone headed in for YTFIB to reduce the lead but Wheels had a 4-1 win thanks to Joel Matip’s clean.  Mega Bucks blew the chance to get into the top half by losing to Trusted. Dave was 1-0 up when Mark Noble converted his second penalty of the season. Perhaps Noble should have taken the penalty in second half injury time. P-E Aubameyang did, missed and Beef swept up the points with cleans from Coady and Otamendi.
