Half-Term Report - Claymore Athletic FC

(Or Clive looks on the positive side...)

“13” unlucky for some! Not so for Claymore Athletic FC. It was our 13th game of the season that saw us gain our first victory of the season, after a very slow start. At last the boys are now showing their true colours. We were the last team to record a victory this season, when we beat The Dead Parrots 3-2. We are proving to be the draw specialist, so far this season, with 9 draws in 17 games. Unbelievably, 8 of those 9 draws have been 2-2!

A colossal battle with The Cow-Faced Juniors, in the 1st round of the PCMT, saw them knock us out, at the third time of asking. Yes, you guessed it, the first two games were 2-2 draws! Our ambitions are to progress to the advanced stages of the FFA Cup, where we start with a very tough away draw against Fred West Landscape Gardening XI and to challenge for 4th in the league!

Michael Owen will hopefully sign a new, improved contract and stay with us for at least one more season and if Wayne Rooney starts finding the “back of the net” more regularly, then our ambitions are very achievable. Defensively, we have strength in depth, with a very consistent midfield. With talented young players Jonny Evans, Branislav Ivanovic, David Edgar and Carlos Villanueva on the fringes of a first team break through, the future is bright.
