The two old rivals shaped up for a season-defining match at Wembley and their were clear signs of nerves in Clive's team who have been unused to winning trophies in recent times. Sheriff's underdogs may be having a dodgy season but the reinforced shelves of the trophy cabinet at the Enormodome show how Boston Rock know how to get the job done and they made the breakthrough on 33 minutes. Jermain Defoe split the back four and raced onto a slide-rule though ball and chipped the advancing Tom Howard. The lead was doubled on the stroke of half-time when Frank Lampard's emphatic penalty found the bottom left corner. Claymore were reeling but James Perch was subbed at the break to bank a clean sheet and reduce the deficit.

Seven minutes after half-time Claymore were level when substitute Magaye Gueye scored his first WSFFL goal, lashing in from the corner of the six-yard box. Momentum was with Claymore now and they went in front on 76 minutes when Leon Osman curled a shot from the left-edge of the Boston Rock area into the far corner past a static Paul Robinson. Clive was badgering the fourth official about the amount of time to be added on when Boston Rock found an equaliser. Andy Carroll hasn't really produced for his manager but his smart header evaded Howard to make it 3-3. Sheriff must have thought his team had earned a replay but Clive had clean sheets from Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy to complete the win.

Clive needs to bring his team down to earth and look to push on in the league to try and complete the double. Sheriff is left to scrap for a top half place and wonder about the scale of the Boston Rock rebuilding programme in the summer.

I'm really pleased with the way the boys played, in what proved to be a very tactical affair. I dodged the boy Aguero for a guaranteed goal, which back-fired after his excellent brace. Nevertheless, I would do it again, without hesitation.

Commiserations to Sheriff for making a game of it.
