FA Cup quarter-final draw

Made by my colleagues Ian and Fiona in Narnia Room* at work earlier today.

Athletico Phoenix v Nil Satis Nisi Optimum
Fred West Landscape Gardening XI v The Fabulous Artisans
San Dimas High School v Claymore Athletic FC
YTFIB v Trusted By Millions

San Dimas and Claymore have won the Cup three times each so that tie's probably the pick of this lot. Trusted have two wins, no one else left in has their name on the trophy.

Games to be played midweek 10/11 February.

He's been lurking behind the leaders for weeks but he's made his move and Clive is now top.

He did it with clean sheets as his team had trailed FCK2 to Andy Carroll's tap in but Branislav Ivanovic, Jonny Evans and Aaron Cresswell got the winning cleans. It was a similar story for Trusted who had fallen behind Final Fantasy thanks to Seb Larsson's free-kick on the half-hour before Beef got cleans from Phil Jones, Gary Cahill and James Tomkins.

If you're a lover of cleans then how about the Muppets this week? Ryan's team got five to trounce the Dead Parrots 6-1 after Rickie Lambert had equalised for Dean 55 minutes after Fabio Borini had opened the scoring. I'm a goals man myself so was in the right place to see six this weekend. Unfortunately they were all against me. Athletico Phoenix repeating the scoreline from week 13. This one was over at half-time, Brian 4-0 to the good with two more from Diego Costa and now up to third in the league.

Kevin Mirallas' name is mud at the moment. Matthew's cursing his penalty miss that resulted in a 4-3 defeat to Nil Satis. Cheese Makers had equalised three times in this one before Filipe Luis got a winning clean for Paul. YTFIB have now won three in a row! The CFJs were Julian's victims this week, Marcus Gayle notching twice and one from Jason Puncheon too much for Chris who is surely out of contention.

Another team having a renaissance are the Artisans. Ben's team beat the free-falling Aardvarks 3-0, Christian Eriksen breaking the deadlock with two minutes left and Leighton Baines and James Collins adding the cleans. Fred has been knocked off the top on goals scored after a 0-0 with Mega Bucks where absolutely nothing happened.

Another week where the teams at the top have a struggle. Fred retains the lead following a 1-1 draw with my team. Dave Azpilicueta limped off with a first-half clean to put the Gardeners ahead but Saido Berahino followed up his four goals in the Cup with the equaliser for San Dimas late on. FCK2 were the big winners in a week none of the top six won. Kevin's victims were the Aardvarks who've slumped to five defeats in six games. Andy Carroll got his first of the season in some style before the break and Harry Kane evaded Ady's defence to double the lead just after.

Claymore could only manage a draw as well this week. Cheese Makers were ahead in this one on 12 minutes when Scott Arfield suddenly thought he was Lionel Messi and beat three Claymore defenders before finishing tidily. The equaliser came from Dusan Tadic who slotted in with 20 minutes left following a rebound off a post. Athletico's good run ended with a home defeat to the Artisans. Diego Costa put Brian in front but Ben found clean sheets from Chris Baird and Florin Gardos (both their first of the season) to climb to the heady heights of 14th.

Trusted and the CFJs shared a 2-2 draw. Lazar Markovic opened his WSFFL account inside 10 minutes and also hit the bar but Alexis Sanchez soon started running the show for Chris and scored twice. Joleon Lescott's clean got Beef a point. Final Fantasy bounce back into the top half after beating the Parrots 2-0. Ceri's cleans coming from Gareth McAuley and Marcin Wasliewski.

Another draw this week was between Nil Satis and the Muppets. Laurent Koscielny lost his marker and headed in the opener on six minutes but a close range finish from Oscar and then a glancing header from Steven Naismith put Paul in front. Koscielny had the last word with the equalising clean. The main action this week was surprisingly at the YTFIB v Mega Bucks game. Charlie Austin scored a spot-kick on 33 minutes for Dave but Paul Konchesky levelled things right on half time. Julian's team clicked after the break with Marcus Gayle scoring from the spot, Mark Noble deflecting into his own net and Jason Puncheon picking out the bottom corner. YTFIB now a mere eight points adrift.

The Dead Parrots 0 v Athletico Phoenix 2

Unfortunately for Ceri her reign as holder was short-lived. Julian can’t buy a win in the league but he knows a cup run when he’s sees one and a late goal from Marko Arnautovic plus a Paul Konchesky clean sees YTFIB into the last eight for the fifth year out of the last six. The Aardvarks and Claymore have won the FA Cup five times between them but it’s only Clive’s team that have a chance of adding to that this season. Claymore scored three first half goals, two from Scott Dann, and although Ady scored the pick of them through Ander Herrera's shot on the turn he couldn't get back in the game.

The FA Cup is surprisingly missing from Fred’s roll of honour but his team are into the last eight after beating the Muppets. Goals from Leo Ulloa, Nacer Chadli and a first from Kurt Zouma were too much for Ryan's team who could only respond through Calum Chambers. Saido Berahino hit four for San Dimas and James Milner added two more for my team as I romped to victory over FCK2 who'd taken the lead through Nathan Dyer.

Trusted went 13 years without winning the league and it’s now 11 since Beef lifted the FA Cup but his team secured a 4-2 win over the CFJs to progress. The soon-to-depart Steven Gerrard struck twice for Trusted either side of a Willian belter but Alexis Sanchez made it 2-2 eight minutes from the end. Beef's victory margin came from cleans by Gary Cahill and Martin Kelly. Nil Satis now have four straight quarter-final appearances and Mega Bucks four straight first round exits. Paul's through thanks to a rare brace by Bafetimbi Gomis.

The Artisans knocked the Cheese Makers out of the PCMT Final and Ben’s done it to Matthew again in the FA Cup. Late goals from Loic Remy and Christian Benteke proving too much for the Cheesers. The Parrots and Athletico must be sick of the sight of each other right now. After the Charity Shield Final a couple of weeks ago they’ll need a replay to sort out their tie. Brian led 2-0 through Mertersacker and Morrison but Dean levelled thanks to a late Wayne Routledge goal and Alan Hutton clean.

Athletico got the job done fairly comfortably in the replay though, Diego Costa on target again.

Teams

San Dimas: Mignolet; Mariappa, Distin, N.Taylor, Dummett; Wantama, Rodwell, Bolasie, Silva; Berahino, Barnes        Subs: Pantilimon; Rafael, Milner, Walters

Artisans: Fabianski; Baines, Fernandez, Collins, Gibbs; Alvarez, Aluko, Eriksen, Johnson; Benteke, Valencia        Subs: Begovic, B.Jones, Gnabry, Remy

San Dimas were the higher-placed of the two teams going into the final and also were showing the better form than their opponents in recent weeks but with three PCMT final defeats in the past the Artisans would hope to profit from any negative feelings about the game.

It was the Artisans who took the lead on 19 minutes in unusual circumstances. San Dimas defender Paul Dummett intended to nod back to his keeper but instead sent his header looping over Simon Mignolet and into the net. 'The Saints' were level at the break though which must have changed the team talks. Saido Berahino, in for the injured Danny Welbeck, coolly sidefooted in from 10 yards three minutes from half time.

Midway through the second period San Dimas went in front, Jack Rodwell heading in from a corner. The lead only lasted three minutes though. Adam Johnson converting a spot-kick, sending Mignolet the wrong way. As the teams had half an eye on a replay San Dimas found the winning cleans. A 15 minute cameo counter from Rafael was followed by one from Adrian Mariappa to make sure the trophy heads back to Tesco Car Park Stadium for the first time.
