Although they’re not top (I’ll come to you in a minute Fred) it only seems fair to start with the defending champions.

Claymore sent a message to the league with a convincing win over The Wateringhole Society. Two up in five minutes through set-pieces from Sergio Aguero (a penalty) and Ross Barkley (one of those free-kicks that nobody touches and goes in the far corner), Wayne Rooney nodded in a third on the hour to clinch the points and send Kiran for a look at the pool. Fred went one better in a 5-1 win over the Muppets and is our first leader this season. All the action was after the break in this one. Eden Hazard scored from the pot and Adam Lallana doubled the lead two minutes later. An excellent Sadio Mane run and shot narrowed the deficit but both Fred’s strikers were on target to have this won with 15 minutes left.

Athletico finished second last season and start with a win this time. Again it was after half time when this one got going, Riyad Mahrez making no mistake with a penalty and Nathan Redmond (an England call-up can’t be far away) added a second 11 minutes later. Diego Costa found the bottom corner just before the end to make the points safe. Kevin needs reinforcements if Harry Kane isn’t going to fire. Cheese Makers took advantage of the alphabetical order rule to be our fourth-placed side. Juan Mata has looked close to the exit door at times but proved his worth when poking in after a defensive mistake. Kyle Laughton’s clean made it 2-0 at the very end. It’s rare for the CFJs to be completely shut out but that’s what happened to the Howells this week.

San Dimas are fifth after riding their luck. Both of my scores came in the space of just over a minute. Simon Mignolet saved a penalty before Theo Walcott was left free with time to pick his spot. Dave probably won’t be resting Phillippe Coutinho again this week. What a debut for Wheel Madrid. Paul W has made 15 new additions to his squad (I think) and two new boys got the goals to beat the Artisans. Alvaro Negredo was the battering ram on 11 minutes, Robert Snodgrass the scalpel with a calm volley on 57. Ben’s only reply was a Federico Fernandez clean. Expect a luck table soon.

Nil satis came from behind to beat Trusted. Erik Lamela’s smart header opened the scoring for Beef but a brilliant Sheridan Shaqiri free-kick levelled matters eight minutes later. Paul S’s winner came from a rare source, a clean from Michel Vorm. Julian broke his transfer record to take Zlatan to YTFIB and the Swede started repaying his fee by getting the only goal against the Aardvarks. He found the bottom corner from long range on 64 minutes to settle the match.
