Fred continues his bid for a treble with a win over Cheese Makers. It wasn’t a massively eventful game with the only score being through an early Marcos Rojo clean but a win’s a win. After getting to the semi-finals in his first season Matthew has now bowed out in the 1st round for six years in a row. Beaten finalists for the last two years Claymore are out though after a 5-4 defeat at Nil Satis. After his Charity Shield win Paul S now has a taste for a trophy. After Wayne Rooney fired Clive into an early lead braces from Pedro and Ahmed Musa steered the game in Paul’s favour. Nil Satis have made the quarter-finals for six years in a row, though in the previous five they’ve got no further. This is Claymore’s first 1st round exit since 2009/10 and it looks very much like the first time in seven seasons that Clive won’t be taking a mini-trophy home with him from the AGM
Wheel Madrid’s excellent season continues with Paul W getting into the quarters. A Yaya Toure penalty before the break and an Alvaro Negredo keeper chargedown after took the game away from FCK2 who don’t have the Cup to distract them from their battle to get off the bottom. Trusted were the big casualties of the first round going down at The Wateringhole Society. Marcus Rashford was Kiran’s hero getting two in five minutes, the second courtesy of a horrendous goalkeeping blunder.
The Muppets left it late to beat Athletico with four cleans doing the job for Ryan’s team. The Aardvarks bounced back from their PCMT Final defeat with a tidy win over the Artisans. Michu Batshuayi fired home from 16 yards two minutes before the break, Grant Leadbetter struck a free-kick 15 laters and Son rounded it off.
The CFJs had a big win over a Mega Bucks team that join Cheese Makers with six straight first round losses. Chris and Co had to wait until 38 minutes had gone for Virgil van Dijk to break the deadlock and Willian and Ben Davies added goals after the break. San Dimas.got past YTFIB with Matt Phillips, Romelu Lukaku and David Silva all finding the net.
