FA Cup holders, top of the league and now PCMT winners - Fred is on a roll right now.

His team ran out comfortable winners over an Abacus side that looked very lightweight up front. The opening goal came from a man with PCMT history. Jermain Defoe was playing in his 11th WSFFL Cup Final, looking for his sixth PCMT winners medal to tie him with Ledley King, Paul Robinson and Frank Lampard*. He was handed the opportunity to get his team off and running with a 25th-minute penalty and drove hard to the left to evade the keeper. More damage was done to Ady’s chances in the three minutes before half-time, First Alfie Mawson glanced a header home from a free-kick on 42 minutes and then Dele Alli continued his run of scoring form with an accurate far post headed finish.

3-0 down at the break Ady was looking for a miracle but it was Fred’s prayers that were answered on 54 minutes. Another pinpoint cross picked out Alli again and the midfielder nodded home. The Gardeners were able to manage the match from here and even a consolation eluded the Aardvarks when Gaston Ramirez shanked one wide of the near post on 83 minutes. A minute later Defoe applied the coup de grace form the spot again. This time he sent the keeper the wrong way to add to his goals in the 2004/05 and 2007/08 finals to become the leading scorer in PCMT Final history. Danny Rose got a clean to narrow the margin at the end but it won’t take the shine off Fred’s win.

*The stats only go back to about 2000 though so all sorts of people could have beaten this - and the scoring records.
