Three teams are tied at the top after eight games. Fred still leads the way on goal difference after being held by Markian 2-2. A typical Mo Salah 'outpace the back line and put it into the far corner’ goal had Fred ahead on 24 minutes but this game swung in Mark and Ian’s favour with a first WSFFL goal for Ryan Sessegnon and a beautifully placed effort from Fernandinho. The clock was ticking down when Leroy Sane arrived in the right place at the right time to level the game and give his team a share of the points. There’s a one goal advantage between the Gardeners and San Dimas after my team overcame the Wateringhole Society 3-1. Kiran’s team took the lead too with a stunner from Andre Schurrle. An unmarked Antonio Rudiger headed me level ten minutes later and second half goals from Callum Paterson and Riyad Mahrez turned the game in my favour.
Nil Satis are the third team on 19 points after a draw with the Muppets. An unlucky deflection off Hector Bellerin on the half hour gave Paul the lead and looked like it might be enough to give him the win but Toby Aldeweireld’s clean earned Ryan a point. There’s a five point gap to Mega Bucks in fourth. A tight game with Cheese Makers was settled in four second half minutes thanks to two close range finishes from record signing P-E Aubameyang.
Wheel Madrid’s good start is fading in the wing mirrors after a 4-0 trouncing at Claymore. Goals from Sergio Aguero and Bobby Reid in the first 20 minutes saw Clive in control and the win was rounded out by Ross Barkley deep in injury time and a Craig Cathcart clean. The Aardvarks are into the top half and looking menacing (well, as menacing as an Aardvark can) after coming from behind twice to beat Athletico. Classy strikes from Anthony Martial had twice given Brian the lead in the second half but responses from Jordan Pickford (saved penalty) and Cenk Tosun (breakaway goal) gave Ady the platform for three clean sheets and victory.
The CFJs are another team looking more like themselves after clean sheets settled their match at Trusted. Quick feet from Roberto Pereyra and Mesut Ozil had twice given the Howells the lead but Erik Lamela’s clever header and Bernardo Silva’s controversial effort replied for Trusted. Christophe Laporte, Shane Duffy and Ben Davies cleans tilted the game in the champs’ favour. The Artisans won their first league game of the campaign courtesy of a Lucas Digne clan against Trusted.
