Fred now with a four-point lead with four games to go. The Gardeners had a 4-1 win over the Muppets with Belgian star Eden Hazard to the fore. The £100m Real Madrid target (possibly) danced through the Muppets defence to make it 1-0 on 24 minutes but the rest of the action came late on. Mo Salah ran half the length of the pitch to make it 2-0 with ten minutes left but Luka Milivojevic hit straight back for Ryan’s team. Yes, it was a penalty. It was Hazard that took the game away from the Muppets as the clock ran down, having too much time and space in the area and that was quickly followed by a Cesar Azpilicueta clean. While that was going on the Aardvarks were losing at San Dimas. My striker Ashley Barnes headed Ady in front (yes you read that right) after four minutes but he scored at the right end to level the match 11 minutes into the second half. Antonio Rudiger’s clean gave me the points and hurt the Aardvarks title push.

The Wateringhole Society hang on to third but defeat to the Artisans means that place now looks tenuous. Kiran did have a 2-0 lead through an Aaron Mooy penalty and a classy chest/volley combo from Raul Jimenez. A brilliant measured, curling lob from Gerard Deulofeu got one back fro Ben with 11 minutes left and cleans from van Aanholt, Walker and Digne completed the turnaround. Athletico Phoenix are fourth after a straightforward 2-0 win over Mega Bucks. Chris Wood powered in a close range header after 18 minutes and James Tomkins closed out the game for Brian with a clean.

Nil Satis hold on to the last place in the top half but defeat to Wheel Madrid drop them into the clutches of the bottom half. Matt Doherty put Paul S ahead with a header from a couple of yards out but Paul W turned it round after the break. Jamie Vardy levelled three minutes into the second half, James Madison (one of the signings of the season perhaps) scored an excellent free kick to put Wheels ahead and a Vardy penalty made it 3-1 and rendered Danilo’s clean a consolation. Claymore are level on points with Nil Satis after edging out Cheese Makers. Youri Tielemans rifled Claymore ahead on 24 minutes but Matthew must have thought he’d earned a point when Troy Deeney smashed home a penalty in injury time. Clive found the winner through Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s clean sheet.

Claymore’s Cup final opponents The CFJs are one place behind in tenth after beating Markian 2-0. The scores came from cleans by Kepa and Aymeric Laporte to give Chris and Co. a shot at a top half finish and pile more woe on a fading Markian. The ‘Battle of the Basement’ went to Trusted. Gabriel Jesus put Beef ahead on four minutes but the game was level at the break after a belated first WSFFL goal from Julian’s number one draft pick Naby Keita. Trusted won the game with cleans by Florian Lejeune, Nicolas Otamendi and Jeffrey Schlupp. The result means YTFIB will prop up the table for the tenth time in the last 14 seasons.
