Athletico Phoenix top the week one table after a comfortable win at Cheese Makers. Matthew’s home ground was far too welcoming last season and has started on the same foot this year. Virgil van Dijk headed Brian in front just before the half hour and Anthony Martial hooked in from close range on 65 minutes before two cleans rounded out the win. The Muppets went one goal better beating Markian 5-2. Raheem Sterling got his third WSFFL hat-trick, Harry Kane replied with a brace but it was two cleans from Ryan’s team that took the game away from his opponents.

San Dimas conceded the first goal of the season, after nine minutes to Wheel Madrid’s John McGinn, but turned the game round after the break. Ashley Barnes struck twice in eight minutes and two cleans saw my team home 4-1. Despite Mo Salah giving them a 19th minute lead, champions Fred West went down to the Artisans 2-1. Divock Origi lost his defender to head Ben level and Lucas Digne scored the decisive clean sheet.

Nil Satis and The Wateringhole Society were perhaps surprising top half finishers last season and clashed this week. Kiran’s team came out on top courtesy of two goals from Marcus Rashford with Paul S only managing a Matt Doherty clean in response. The last of our week one winners were the CFJs who needed a Scott Dann clean to put YTFIB away 1-0.

There two 2-2 draws too. Claymore gifted Mega Bucks the lead through Abdoulaye Doucoure’s own goal and Dave doubled his advantage thanks to P-E Aubameyang’s control and lofted finish just before the hour. Clive clawed his way back in the last 15 minutes thanks to Johann Gudmundsson and a twice taken Sergio Aguero spot-kick. There was a debut goal from Tanguy Ndombele as he put the Aardvarks 2-1 up against Trusted but Beef grabbed a share of the spoils with Ben Mee’s clean.
