Fred West Landscape Gardening XI 1 v 2 Claymore Athletic FC
Stanley Athletic FC 3 v 0 YTFIB
The Cow-Faced Juniors 2 v 1 Cheese Makers

Not going to start with the holders this time. I’m going to start with this week’s only winners. The Wateringhole Society travelled to Stratton Park and did a number on Wheel Madrid to come away with a 4-0 win. The breakthrough for Kiran’s team was a minute before half-time when Nathan Ake reacted quickest to the Wheels goalkeeper parrying a shot. The lead was doubled ten minutes later (not including half-time) when Harvey Barnes capped off a great performance with a deflected shot into the far corner. Oleksandr Zinchenko was sent off for Wheels shortly after ending any hope of a comeback and the mighty Society capped off a win with cleans from Bernd Leno and Michael Keane.

To the holders then. Claymore were held 3-3 by a Fred side showing signs of the form that won them the title last year. Fred took the lead five minutes before the interval when Hugo Loris saved a penalty but Robert Snodgrass levelled on the stroke of half-time courtesy of a deflected volley. It was a Snodgrass deflected half-volley that put Clive ahead on 57 minutes before Mo Salah was left all alone to dink over the keeper 14 minutes later to make it 2-2. Salah bundled in on 90 minutes to put Fred on the verge of victory but John Egan got a clean to earn Claymore a replay.

Replays are needed in the other games too after they both ended 1-1. At Le Stade de Fromage all the action was before half-time. Cheese Makers led against the CFJs after Issa Diop lunged to turn a free-kick in at the near post. Chris and Co. equalised 12 minutes after that when Ricardo Pereyra had time to take a touch before firing in. Stanley Athletic were on the verge of the semi-final after Ben Chilwell swept in at the far post after 64 minutes to put Aaron ahead at YTFIB. Julian’s side had missed a penalty and then saw Fabian Delph sent off 19 minutes from time but still had the resilience to find an equalising clean through Charlie Taylor.

Replay Report

Our semi-final line-up is complete as we had three replay winners to join The Wateringhole Society. Holders Claymore are still on track for the treble after Jonny Evans’ clean was the clincher against Fred. Headed goals from Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire plus a clean sheet from ’Slabhead’ against YTFIB put Stanley Athletic in the last four in Aaron’s first season. Many-time beaten finalists the CFJs are closing in on the final again after a com-from-behind win over Cheese Makers. Former Cheeser Billy Sharp scored in first half injury time to level Danny Ings opener and Mesut Ozil smacked in to get the winner for Chris in the final minute.
