Claymore Athletic FC 5 v 2 Stanley Athletic FC
The Cow-Faced Juniors 3 v 2 The Wateringhole Society
Stanley Athletic raced into an early lead in their tie against Claymore, Chris Wood steering in after Clive’s keeper spilled a shot. 1-0 became 2-0 on 28 minutes when Jordan Ayew worked a bit of space for himself and fired in from 18 yards on 28 minutes. The Swordsmen started their fightback after a halftime talking to. Olivier Giroud pulled one back nine minutes after the interval, stabbing in a curling cross from four yards, Enda Stevens bagged an early clean when he went off just after the hour mark to make it level. It was all Claymore after that, cleans from Jon Egan, Jonny Evans and Gary Cahill inflicting a first defeat on Aaron since he joined the league.
The CFJs were looking for a reaction after rolling over to their semi-final opponents in the league last week. Recent signing Billy Sharp scored in the quarter-final replay against Cheese Makers and added another in this game, an unmarked powerful header from six yards out after 36 minutes. Harvey Barnes scored an equaliser four minutes later, rounding the keeper who had a rush of blood and came racing out of his goal to no great effect (we’ve all done it.) After a tight second half Barnes smashed in a second with five minutes to go to have Kiran on the verge of making his first final. It wasn’t to be though, the Cows had cleans from Scott Dann and Dan Burn to turn the game round.
It’ll be Clive’s ninth FA Cup Final (four wins, four defeats) and the sixth for Chris and Co (all losses.)
