After a mini-slump at the start of the month Claymore got back to winning ways at Le Stade De Fromage. Matthew’s Cheese Makers were level at one apiece with 18 minutes left, Troy Deeney’s casually placed sidefoot finish cancelling Sergio Aguero’s opener, but clean sheet Claymore ran away with it in the end through Martin Dubravka, Craig Cathcart and Gary Cahill. It was a doubly good week as none of the chasing sides won. Stanley Athletic had lain waste to everything in their path until this week when they played out an uninspiring goalless draw with San Dimas.
The Artisans were held 2-2 by Nil Satis. Paul’s team were two up thanks to an early Dominic Calvert-Lewin block of a goalkeeper’s clearance inside three minutes and the ball dropping perfectly for Matt Doherty to double the lead after 27 minutes. Michael Obafemi’s first of the season cut the deficit four minutes later and Ben’s side grabbed a point through Federico Fernandez picking up a clean. It was also 2-2 for Trusted against Mega Bucks. Serge Aurier’s left-foot shot into the far corner on the stroke of half-time put Beef ahead but he was 2-1 down 12 minutes after the break, Michail Antonio outpacing the Trusted defence to level and Josh King’s far post tap-in putting Dave in front. It took a clean from Ben Mee to earn a point for the home side.
Ady’s Aardvarks missed a chance to move up a place after they were held, also 2-2, by Markian. Ian’s team raced into a two goal lead by the half hour mark. Steven Bergwijn started repaying his transfer fee, slotting in from six yards, then Rodri added a second with a powerful header. Diogo Jota was in the right place at the right time to bring it back to 2-1 and Danny Rose’s clean was the Aardvark leveller. The Wateringhole Society were the week’s big winners, 4-0 at the CFJs. Level at the break, two Ismaila Sarr goals in the next 15 minutes took the game away from the Cows and a stunning swerving strike from Jamal Lewis plus another Raul Jimenez goal made it 4-0. Not a great Cup semi-final prep for Chris and Co.
Bruno Fernandes scored another goal for Fred this week (beating the Muppets keeper at his near post) but Ryan’s team ran out 3-1 winners. Sebastian Haller hooked in his own knock down, and there were cleans from Joel Ward and James Tarkowski. Clean sheets also did the job for YTFIB against Wheel Madrid. Ali Samatta’s first goal for Paul W, a lovely diving header, was the opener but Julian’s clean sheet combo from Nick Pope, Charlie Taylor and Phil Bardsley lift his team to eleventh.
