Handball eh? Hope you’ve got a penalty taker in your squad. Seven were scored this week.
One was at our game of the week but the scorer ended on the losing side. Neil Maupay was that penalty scorer, five minutes before the break, to level the game for Kiran against Ady’s Aardvarks. The teams exchanged own goals after the break before Callum Hudson-Odoi put the Wateringhole in front for the first time with 20 minutes to go. Diogo Jota made it 3-3 with two minutes left and Ryan Bertrand got the clean to give the Aardvarks the 4-3 win and sent them to the top of the table. It’s a Bevan 1-2 at the top of the WSFFL summit as Dave is the only other unbeaten manager after a 1-1 draw with Claymore. Nathan Ake got his first mega Bucks goal with six minutes left but Clive’s equaliser came four minutes later. Youri Tielemans with, you guessed it, a penalty.
Nil Satis are fourth but lost their first game of the season, 2-1 to San Dimas. Riyad Mahrez smashed me ahead after just four minutes, Dominic Calvert-Lewin levelled for Paul S on ten minutes and the winner came my way courtesy of an Kyle Walker-Peters clean. The CFJs are fifth but their winning start ended against the Artisans. Mason Mount fired past an unsighted Cows keeper ten minutes after the break, Patrick Bamford continued to confound critics with a header to make it 2-0 to Ben with two minutes left. That rendered Tammy Abraham’s injury time goal for Chris and Co a mere consolation.
Wheel Madrid’s only score before this week was of the own goal variety but Paul W’s team found their scoring boots against Cheese Makers. Unsurprisingly Jamie Vardy was at the forefront with a hat-trick (two penalties) after Matthew had led 2-1 and 3-2. Pick of the goals was James Maddison’s effort that picked out the top corner to make it 5-3 before Callum Wilson added, yes, a penalty in injury time. The Muppets and Stanley finished level to occupy 8th and 9th places. Sadio Mane and an Injury time header from Sebastian Haller looked to have given the points to Ryan but Aaron struck back with cleans from McCarthy and Masuaku.
Markian joined YTFIB on three points after beating those opponents with an early brace from Callum Robinson. Solly March pulled a late goal back for Julian but it wasn’t enough. Our last two champions played out a 2-2 draw. Fred was ahead twice, Lucas Moura at the far post on 25 minutes and a Bruno Fernandes penalty after ten minutes of stoppage time. Beef didn’t roll over, first equalising through Richarlison’s penalty five minutes before half-time and then Robin Koch’s clean. Both sides are still searching for a first win.
