Paul Cartmell Memorial Trophy Quarter-finals
Claymore Athletic FC 2 v 4 Stanley Athletic FC
The Fabulous Artisans 0 v 2 Nil Satis Nisi Optimum
Trusted by Millions 4 v 1 Fred West Landscape Gdg XI
Wheel Madrid 2 v 0 Markian United
We’ve got an interesting last four with only one previous winner in the line up. That previous winner is Beef whose Trusted team saw off Fred 2-1. Diego Llorente opened the scoring for TBM on 18 minutes but Mo Salah bamboozled the Beef defence 14 minutes from time to scare a worldie of an equaliser. Jeff Schlupp got off the bench to put Beef back in front and he and Llorente added cleans to make it a 4-1 win in the end.. Stanley Athletic came from a goal down to beat Claymore 4-2. Trevoh Chalobah got that goal for Clive on nine minutes but Aaron was level at the break with Anthony Martial scoring his first of the season. James Ward-Prowse gave Stanley the lead from the spot just after the hour and then Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell got their firsts of the season to make it 4-1 and take the game away from Claymore.
The other games finished 2-0. Nil Satis saw off the Artisans courtesy of an excellent Andros Townsend goal and a Grant Hanley clean. Wheel Madrid dispatched Markian by the same score. Paul W was delighted with his summer signing of Michael Olise and the French under-18 international scored his first goal in the WSFFL, doubling the lead after Jamie Vardy’s opener.
Charity Shield Quarter-finals
Aardvark Abacus 2 v 1 The Cow-Faced Juniors
Cheese Makers 1 v 4 YTFIB
Mega Buck Bandits 1 v 0 The Wateringhole Society
Real Muppets 5 v 1 San Dimas High School
The Aardvarks are the only previous winners of this tournament left in after beating the CFJs 2-1. Ollie Watkins got his first of the campaign for Ady on 67 minutes but the Cows must have thought they’d earned a draw when Yoan Wissa replied in injury time. They hadn’t. Kieren Tierney got the winning clean. Real Muppets destroyed the holders, San Dimas, 5-1. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg got his first goal for the Saints to put me ahead but Kelechi Iheanacho levelled within four minutes. Ryan’s team ran away with it after the break. Sadio Mane put the Muppets ahead but the boss will be delighted that Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne were back on the scoresheet too.
Clean sheets from Nick Pope, Nathan Collins, Ben Gibson and Charlie Taylor gave YTFIB a 4-1 over Cheese Makers after Bryan Mbeumo had opened the scoring for Matthew. Is Kiran concentrating on the league already? The Wateringhole Society lost 1-0 to Mega Bucks in a lacklustre tie that was settled by a 20 minute Matt Lowton clean sheet from the bench for Dave.
