Match of the Week

Or should that be Coronation of the Week? Fred clinched the title with a big win over Trusted who are now sucked into the mid-table scrap.

It was Beef’s team that scored first too. Grant Xhaka opened his account courtesy of a flukey deflection nine minutes after the break. Salomon Rondon brought the Gardeners level on 66 minutes and a Craig Dawson flying header put the leaders in front with 12 minutes left.  Three minutes later an unlucky deflection off Ryan Shawcross extended the advantage. Jermain Defoe and Nicolas Otamendi swapped goals in injury time to leave the game at 4-2 before an Alfie Mawson clean finished both the match and the title race off.

Elsewhere in the league

The Muppets are still best of the rest after being San Dimas 3-1. My team led through Danny Welbeck but Kevin De Bruyne squared things up two minutes later and Raheem Sterling and a Gael Clichy clean keep Ryan chasing that runners-up spot. The Artisans are a point behind and hurt the CFJs chances of being best of the rest with a 3-1 win. It was cleans all the way from Ben (Gibbs, Fernandez, Yoshida) to turn round the game after Fernando Llorente had opened the scoring for Chris.

The CFJs are level on points with Wheel Madrid after Paul’s team saw off the Mega Bucks. Like the CFJs/Artisans game the eventual losers took the lead (Nemanja Matic scoring his first of the season for Dave) only to be beaten by three clean sheets (Matip, Luiz and Byram) for Paul.) Athletico won’t be finishing in the top three this time after becoming the Aardvarks’ latest victims. Brian led twice in this one, Diego Costa after 23 minutes equalised by Vincent Kompany’s wallop and Riyad Mahrez’ second half goal held the lead until Kompany and Winston Reid got the deciding cleans.

Claymore needed cleans too (three of them) to beat FCK2. Kevin’s team now propping things up. That’s because Nil Satis and the Wateringhole Society shared the points and YTFIB got a draw against Cheese Makers. marcos Alonso’s deflected goal for Paul S was cancelled out by Wilfred Ndidi (yes, indeedy) in a result that makes Kiran the new holder of the most draws in a season award. Paul is now 14 without a win. Manuel Lanzini put Matthew ahead with 25 minutes to go at YTFIB but Mame Diouf got his first of the campaign to give Julian the draw.
