All it took was two goals to change the league leadership for the first time this season. The Muppets slipped up 1-0 at home to Cheese Makers, Glenn Murray’s penalty early in the second half giving Matthew the win. At the same time the CFJs were winning 1-0 to take a three-point lead at the top. Wheel Madrid were the victims, league-record signing Alvaro Morata was the scorer.

There was a bit more excitement for the Aardvarks’ travelling fans as they beat Trusted to go third. Son Heung-Min and Alexandre Lacazette had Ady two up just after the break but Beef struck back through Nicolas Otamendi and then, with a minute left, a Lewis Dunk own goal. Parity didn’t last long as Jordan Pickford got the deciding clean for the Aardvarks. After a nine-game unbeaten run Beef’s team have lost three out of four. San Dimas were 100% in the league in November but are 0% in December after losing to Markian United. Gylfi Sigurdsson has suddenly got the taste for goals and struck two minutes after the break to give the new(ish) boys the lead, David Silva’s stretching volley seven minutes from time set up a grandstand finish ultimately decided, in the away team’s favour, through a Mason Holgate clean.

Claymore and Fred fought out an excellent 3-3 draw but both are now ten points off the top. Christian Kabasele powered in an early header for Clive but he found himself 3-1 down with 15 minutes left. Someone must have told Eden Hazard that Kevin de Bruyne was far and away the best player this season and he responded in a ‘hold my pint’ kind of way with a two goal performance. Emre Can headed in the other for Fred but Jonny Evans and Jonjoe Kenny got the cleans for Claymore to share the points. The Fabulous Artisans are also on the 20 point mark after dispatching YTFIB 5-0. Braces from Roberto Firmino and Jesse (or is it Messi) Lingard getting the job done in style.

A point further back are Athletico who brushed the struggling Wateringhole Society aside 3-0. Demarai Gray got the goal, knacking himself on a post in the process and Ashley Williams and Harry Maguire chipped in with cleans. The second five-goal thriller of the week was Mega Bucks edging Nil Satis. One nil up through Antonio Valencia on four minutes, 2-1 up through Charlie Austin’s first of the season, Dave finally shrugged off Paul’s defiance with Phillippe Coutinho cleverly slipping a free-kick under the Nil Satis wall and in with three minutes left.
