Report

Looks like Joelinton saves his best for cup matches. The man who got the winner in last season’s FA Cup final got the goal to take PCMT holders Claymore into the last four. A great strike from Raphinha 11 minutes from time brought Trusted level after Daniel Podence’s opener for Clive but then the big man stepped up with a minute left. And mis-hit a shot that the keeper would have thrown his hat on if it hadn’t been for a huge deflection which took the ball in. Fellow Evertonians Nil Satis are also into the semis after victory over last year’s beaten finalists the Aardvarks. A brilliant volley for Benjamin Mendy fired Paul S in front four minutes before the break, the in-form Diogo Jota equalised on the hour but the Nil Satis winner came courtesy of a Stuart Dallas clean.

Mega Bucks have made only their third PCMT semi-final in the past 20 seasons with a 2-0 win over YTFIB. Clean sheets from Javier Manquillo and Luke Ayling got the job done for Dave. The Muppets and Stanley will go again next week after a 1-1 draw. Angelo Ogbonna’s second-minute header was cancelled out by James Ward-Prowse’s set-piece half an hour later and that was that.

In the Charity Shield, holders Artisans went out after a 3-1 defeat to Fred. Jarred Bowen nodded Ben’s team in front straight after the break but the Gardeners had turned it round inside 20 minutes, Bruno Fernandes and Ferran Torres getting the goals. Kurt Zouma’s clean confirmed the win. The Wateringhole got the better of Wheel Madrid in a five-goal thriller. Jack Grealish and Pedro Neto exchanged first half goals, then Ruben Dias pocketed a clean after 70 minutes to put Kiran in front. Harvey Barnes made it 3-1 from close range four minutes from time and although Callum Wilson pulled one back straight away the Wateringhole held on.

A Riyad Mahrez hat-trick saw my team get past the CFJs 4-3. The Algerian’s first two saw me two-nil ahead but Jan Bednarek and Gabriel headers made it 2-2 at the break. Mahrez’s third might have finished the job but Edinson Cavani dived in two minutes into injury time for the equaliser. I got the decider thanks to Semi Ajayi’s clean sheet. The Cheese Makers and Markian played out a goalless draw and will try again at the weekend.

Replays

In the PCMT a Kevin De Bruyne inspired opening 26 minutes for the Muppets took the game away from a surprisingly lacklustre Stanley team. The Belgian teed up Raheem Sterling inside five minutes and then converted a penalty himself to double the lead. The Muppets coasted through the rest of the game and added two cleans to breeze into the last four.

A second half fightback saw Cheese Makers overturn a two goal deficit to make their fourth Charity Shield semi-final. Two Markian goals in two minutes just before the break seemed to have Ian in control but Neco Williams’ early clean turned the game Matthew’s way and more clean sheets from Andy Robertson and new signing Caomhin Kelleher put the Cheese Makers through. Can Matthew go one better this time?

A win for Ady and a defeat for Paul S means the Aardvarks are back on top. It took just five minutes for Ady’s team to go ahead against Mega Bucks, Son Heung-Min on target again, and Diogo Jota doubled the lead with a header four minutes before half-time. Matt Lowton’s clean for Dave wasn’t enough to force a point. Nil Satis cruised into a two-nil lead but ended up on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Fred, the result dropping them to third. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is up to ten goals for the season after two in the opening half-hour and it took until the 56th minute for Fred to get on the scoresheet through Bruno Fernandes' penalty. Theo Walcott restored the two goal advantage two minutes later but it was all the Gardeners after that. Giovanni Lo Celso finished off a quick break to pull it back to 3-2 and cleans from Zouma and Wan-Bissaka delivered the win.

Stanley Athletic are ominously up to second after seeing off Claymore 3-1. Clive went ahead on 35 minutes when Abdoulate Doucoure was left unmarked to head home but Aaron turned it round with cleans from Maguire, Masuaku and Lindelof. The CFJs are fifth after coming from two down to grab a 2-2 draw at YTFIB. Bobby Reid (for short) finished a great team move to put Julian ahead on 15 minutes and a great strike from Solly March made it two on 56 minutes. The Cows pulled one back when Tammy Abraham slipped in with 25 minutes left and Vladimir Coufal got the equalising clean.

Wheels saw off Markian 3-0 and are sixth. It was clean sheets all the way from Paul W for a change thanks to Meslier, Matip and Robinson. The Muppets beat the Wateringhole 3-1 to leapfrog Kiran’s team in the table. Sebastian Haller hasn’t really repaid his transfer fee but he smashed in the opener for Ryan from the edge of the box on 56 minutes. Pedro Neto was alert at the far post to level with a quarter of an hour left but cleans from Ogbonna and Tarkowski finished the game in Ryan’s favour.

The Artisans were held 1-1 by bottom-placed Cheese Makers. Jonny Evans headed into his own net on 21 minutes to give Matthew the lead and it took until four minutes from time for Ben to find an equaliser, Roberto Firmino heading in at the right end. Trusted are moving in the right direction after a 4-0 win at San Dimas. All Beef’s counters were cleans - Schlupp, Telles, Mee and Koch getting the job done.

Nil Satis stay league leaders into the international break. Paul S’ team saw off the Muppets 2-1 this week. Bernard getting a rare goal on 19 minutes, firing in from the edge of the box, and Rui Patricio’s penalty save doubled the lead 20 minutes later. Ryan’s reply came from James Tarkowski’s clean but it wasn’t enough. After a setback last week the Aardvarks returned to their early season form with a 2-1 win at Claymore. Two goals from Ollie Watkins in the space of four second-half minutes set Ady up for the win and Clive could only find a Matty Cash clean in response.

Stanley are up to third after putting five past Wheel Madrid where it seems to be feast or famine this season. Paul W’s team has scored four or more three times and conceded four or more four times. It was a conceding week.Wheels took the lead too, Jamie Vardy from the penalty spot after 15 minutes, but the striker missed a second spot-kick after Ben Chilwell had levelled at the far post for Aaron. Wheels did go 2-1 up with 13 minutes left with a flick header from Thiago Silva but it was all Stanley after that. Timo Werner slammed in on 80 minutes, Stuart Armstrong made it 3-2 two minutes later and Alex McCarthy and Arthur Masuaku added clean sheets. The CFJs followed up their 7-2 wn last week by beating a toothless San Dimas 5-0. A brilliant free-kick from Eberechi Eze on 22 minutes was soon followed by a scuffed finish from Tammy Abraham. My team held it at two until injury time when Thomas Soucek’s sidefoot effort was soon followed by Edison Cavani’s first WSFFL goal and a Jan Bednarek clean for Chris and Co.

Mega Bucks slipped to fifth after going down 3-0 at home to the Artisans. Patrick Bamford volleyed in after 27 minutes to make up for his earlier effort that was ruled out by a dubious offside call. Ben had to wait until injury time to clinch the points with a penalty save from Lukasz Fabianski and a Jonny Evans clean. Fred’s team are now upwardly mobile and are sixth after a 3-1 win Le Stade de Fromage. Mo Salah scored a 13th minute penalty and the Gardeners were out of sight by the break thanks to a Bruno Fernandes brace. Matt Targett’s clean was only a consolation for Matthew.

The Wateringhole Society lost ground after a 3-1 defeat to YTFIB. A clever David McGoldrick flick after nine minutes put Julian’s team ahead and then Bukayo Saka and Helder Costa swapped unfortunate own goals before half-time. Charlie Taylor’s clean for YTFIB finished the scoring. Trusted By Millions picked up their first win of the campaign after beating Markian 3-2. A great first time strike by Che Adams was quickly cancelled out by Scott Dann’s header but Beef was soon ahead again with an instinctive turn and first time shot from the fit again Gabriel Jesus. That lead lasted until two minutes from time when a deft Harry Kane header equalised for Ian but Beef took the points with an Adam Webster clean.
