Real Muppets 1 v Stanley Athletic FC 4

The Wateringhole Society are battling on two fronts now. The league leaders made the semi-finals with a big win over the CFJs. Raul Jimenez opened the scoring on six minutes for Kiran having been given time to chest down and volley in. Rodrigo hit the bar for the CFJs twelve minutes later but five minutes after that it was 2-0, Michael Keane getting up highest in the area to head home. Neil Maupay hooked in a half-volley to make it 3-0 a minute before the break before Rodrigo hit the bar again in first half injury time. The second half was less eventful with cleans from Ruben Dias and Tariq Lamptey making it 5-0 to the Society.

Claymore will also be thinking about a Double after getting past Markian 2-0. Clive making it through thanks to a Youri Tielemans spot-kick at the end of the first half and a Roman Saiss clean.

Cheese Makers have made the semi-finals for the first time since 2010/11, Matthew’s first season in charge, following a 2-0 win over Wheel Madrid. Fabinho reacted quickest to his own blocked shot to force the Cheese ahead five minutes before the break. A nervy second half was settled in Matthew’s favour with a Joel Ward clean. It’s Paul’s fourth quarter-final exit in his six seasons in the hot-seat.

Stanley Athletic and the Muppets will try again at the weekend after an entertaining 4-4 draw. Excellent first half strikes from Kieran Trippier and Raheem Sterling sent the game in level at the interval but it took just three minutes after the break for Ryan’s team to take control with a scruffy Phil Foden finish. Raheem Sterling added a header and completed his fifth WSFFL hat-trick, tapping in after his penalty was saved, to put the Muppets 4-1 up as the clock ran down. Almost immediately Craig Dawson replied for Aaron, in controversial circumstances too as the ball struck his arm on the way in. The goal stood and with the Muppets feeling hard done by cleans from Virgil van Dijk and Rico Henry levelled the game and set up the replay.

After Craig Dawson’s controversial goal in the first match set up the replay it was the same player who (fairly) headed Aaron ahead in that game. Three more goals in 20 minutes from Maguire, Rashica and Armstrong put Stanley into their second semi in three seasons.
