PCMT
Wheel Madrid were beaten in the PCMT Final last year and look to have the taste to go one better this year. Paul’s team swept Fred’s strugglers aside, starting with David Luiz sticking out a leg to turn in after nine minutes. Jamie Vardy scored twice to extend the lead before Mo Salah pulled one back from the spot with 15 minutes left but James Maddison smashed in a free-kick and Vardy completed his hat-trick with an injury time penalty. The Muppets won this two years ago and are on track to regain the trophy after edging out Cheese Makers 2-1. Luka Milivojevic opened the scoring for Ryan just after the half hour with a penalty and Raheem Sterling megged the Cheese keeper 21 seconds after the break to double the lead. Jonny was in the right place to pull one back for Matthew with 17 minutes left but the Muppets held on.
The Aardvarks have been beaten in two of the last three finals and have made the last four again after beating the CFJs. Jamaal Lascelles powered in a header with eight minutes left in the first half and Jordan Henderson made it 2-0 to Ady on 52 minutes. A Daryl Janmaat clean was all the Cows could muster in response. Claymore are one of the league’s form teams and carried that in to the cup seeing off the Bandits 3-0. Youri Tielemens smashed in after 17 minutes and Robert Snodgrass had the freedom of Chippenham Park to make it to just before half-time. A John Stones clean finished the scoring.
Charity Shield
Athletico are one game away from their fourth Charity Shield Final after a 6-1 dismissal of YTFIB. Ben Chilwell opened the scoring on 10 minutes, first to a rebound after a weak save. Ayoze Perez was taking his time to settle at Kingham Park but burst into Brian’s reckoning with a hat-trick. Tim Krul saved two penalties, seven seasons after his last in WSFFL, to make it 6-0 before Ilkay Gundogan scored Julian’s consolation. The Wateringhole were also big winners, Nil Satis the victims. Christian Pulisic broke his WSFFL duck with a ‘perfect’ hat-trick and Marcus Rashford added one in between times before Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back for Paul S. Nathan Ake’s clean rounded out Kiran’s 5-1 win.
San Dimas hadn’t played a Charity Shield game since 2011/12 and made a shocking start in this one, conceding a header to Harry Kane to put Markian ahead in 48 seconds. Pascal Gross smashed in a free kick after a quarter of an hour to level it and my team clinched the game in a five minutes spell in the second half. David Silva got the faintest of touches on a cross and Lys Mousset steered in a volley to put me in the semi-final. One replay to sort out. Trusted looked to have got the winner when Lucas Digne steered into his own net deep into injury time but Aaron Ramsdale’s clean was the Artisans’ equaliser.
Replay
Of the teams that have played the Artisans this season only Trusted hadn’t lost, with a draw in the league and in this competition. With ten minutes left the teams still couldn’t be separated but a controversial penalty gave Gerard Deulofeu the chance to put Ben’s team 2-1 up and he made no mistake. Six minutes later Kyle Walker arrived late in the box to make it 3-1 and send the Artisans into the semi-finals.
