Another win for the Artisans, after the WSFFL equivalent of VAR correctly ruled out an Aardvarks clean sheet*. The leaders were two up through Mason Mount and Patrick van Aanholt’s penalty and while Michy Batshuayi pulled one back with a minute to go that was the end of the scoring. San Dimas are back in second after adding to Fred’s woes. Douglas Luiz came off the bench to score my first with seven minutes to go and Fabian Schar’s clean made it 2-0. Who’d have thought last season’s top two would both be in the bottom three after seven games?
Free-scoring Claymore are up to third after beating Athletico 4-1. Conor Hourihane’s first WSFFL goal gave Clive the lead just after the hour but Brian must have thought he’d earned a point when Jordan Ayew poked home with three minutes left. Claymore’s defence were strong this week and cleans from Egan, Stevens and Cathcart delivered all the points to the home side. The Muppets and Wateringhole Society played out a 2-2 draw and are fourth and sixth respectively. Neil Maupay scored his first for Kiran, nodding home after three minutes but the game turned Ryan’s way either side of half-time with goals from Sadio Mane and Sebastian Haller. Diogo Dalot was subbed with a clean on the hour to make it 2-2 and that’s how it stayed.
If it’s goals you’re after how about fifth placed Wheel Madrid? Paul W’s team thrashed Trusted 6-0 with David Luiz getting a goal and a clean, record signing Wesley scoring two from close range plus Jack Grealish and James Maddison also on target. The CFJs hold the last place in the top half after a 1-1 draw with Mega Bucks Tammy Abraham spend the scoring for the Howells but he couldn’t find a second and Matt Lowton’s clean was Dave’s equaliser.
Nil Satis and Cheese are level on nine points after Paul beat Matthew 3-1. Danny Ings had put Cheese in front but Nil Satis won with cleans from Patricio, Doherty and Basham. YTFIB picked up their first win after late action at Markian. This was drifting towards a 0-0 until James Milner scored a penalty five minutes into injury time to put Julian in front and his team quickly followed up with cleans from Charlie Taylor and Jack O’Connell.
* Hurrah! I can explain away my mistakes like this in future!
