A rare defeat for the CFJs has livened up the title race. Goals from Danny Welbeck and Brennan Johnson, after Andreas Pereira had given Aaron the lead, meant Chris and Co led 2-1 at Stanley and Gracie at the break but they slipped to a 3-2 defeat. Dominic Solanke bundled in to level the scores on 79 minutes and Kieran Trippier picked up the winning clean for SGU.
That opened the door for the pursuers and they stepped through. Fred saw off San Dimas 2-1 to close the gap to four points. Mohamed Salah smashed home after 17 minutes and Jack Grealish capped a great performance when sliding in the second 16 minutes from time. Dan Burn’s clean was my consolation reply. The Wateringhole eased to a 3-0 win over Wheel Madrid. Kaoru Mitoma and Ivan Toney scored within a minute of each other midway through the first half and Ezri Konsa’s clean rounded out the comfortable win.
If three teams are in contention for the title then I fancy half the league are at risk of finishing bottom. Mega Bucks currently occupy that position despite a 3-3 draw with the Aardvarks. Granit Xhaka’s late header and Alex Moreno’s clean rescuing a point for Dave after he fell 3-1 behind.
Cheese Makers jump above Dave’s side thanks to a 3-1 win over the Muppets. First half goals from Nayef Aguerd and Julian Alvarez had Matthew two up and though Kevin De Bruyne pulled one back for Ryan straight after half time the Cheese had a Tyrone Mings clean to restore the advantage. Claymore are two points off the bottom after going down 4-1 to a reinvigorated Trusted. Gabriel Jesus struck twice for Beef, Joe Willock converted a simple header and Michael Keane’s rocket made it four before Clive found his sole reply from a Manuel Akanji clean.
Nil Satis grabbed a point at Markian with Sven Botman’s clean cancelling out Harry Kane’s penalty. Big winners in the bottom half were YTFIB who beat the Artisans 3-1. A calm Ilkay Gundogan finish put Julian ahead on 53 minutes. Ricardo Pereira rifled a second three minutes later and though Alexis Mac Allister pulled one back from the spot YTFIB clinched it thanks to a Nick Pope clean.
