Ben's seven point lead is preserved and he's finally through to the Cup quarters too.
FA Cup 1st Round 2nd Replay
Final Fantasy XI 1 v 2 The Fabulous Artisans
Cameron Jerome's flick-header four minutes from time looked to have sent us into a third replay after Hugo Rodallega's sumptuous free-kick had given the Artisans the lead twenty minutes earlier. There was a final twist however when Mario Balotelli converted an injury time penalty to put Ben's team into the last eight.
League Week 17
Aardvark Abacus 2 v 2 Claymore Athletic FC
Athletico Phoenix 2 v 1 Final Fantasy XI
Fred West Landscape Gardening XI 1 v 2 Nil Satis Nisi Optimum
Real Muppets 0 v 1 The Dead Parrots
San Dimas High School 3 v 4 The Cow-Faced Juniors
The Cheese Makers 1 v 2 Trusted By Millions
The Fabulous Artisans 2 v 2 York’s Returning Glory
You Know Your Boston Rock FC 2 v 3 Mega Buck Bandits
Not the Artisans most convincing performance of the season but they retain a seven point lead. Julian got the right reaction from his team after getting stuffed 7-0 last week when Craig Bellamy outpaced the Artisans defence to open the scoring and Samir Nasri lost his marker to double the lead on 56 minutes. The Artisans pulled one back through Hugo Rodallega's free-kick ten minutes later but had to wait until injury time to grab an equaliser. Mario Balotelli, perhaps lucky to still be on the pitch, coolly converted the late, late penalty. There's no change in Ben's advantage because the Aardvark/Claymore game finished all square too. Mark Davies scored for Ady on three minutes and Craig Gardner put him two up with five minutes left but cleans from Bardsley and Luiz got Clive a point. It's the highest Claymore have been since they led the league in week one.
Athletico Phoenix have yo-yoed up and down the top half in recent weeks and are back up to fourth after beating Final Fantasy. James Morrison never minds a dig from long range and he opened the scoring ten minutes before the break. Robin van Persie doubled the lead on 71 minutes and though Cameron Jerome glanced a goal back four minutes from time it was a second narrow defeat for Ceri this week. Fred West were surprisingly knocked out of the Cup by Nil Satis a couple of weeks ago and Paul's team repeated the treatment this week. Tim Cahill hasn't scored in a while but he got the first one in this game after a teammate's handball had gone unnoticed. Bobby Zamora doubled the lead from the spot midway through the second half and although Danny Welbeck pulled one back Nil Satis held on for a welcome three points.
Trusted snapped their recent poor streak with a win at the Cheese Makers. Stephane Sessegnon scored after 14 minutes and Phil Jones limped off with a clean three minutes later to put Beef in a strong position. Nigel Reo-Coker's rare goal pulled one back for Matthew but Trusted saw the game out. Boston Rock missed a chance to close the gap on the leaders when slipping to defeat at home to Mega Bucks. A Darren Bent penalty opened the scoring for Sheriff after 11 minutes but Antonio Valencia levelled for Dave just before the break. Jermain Defoe struck on the hour to restore the lead but clean sheets from the unlikely sources of Russel Martin and Daniel Ayala gave Mega Bucks the win.
A Danny Murphy penalty was the only goal of the Parrots/Muppets game. Dean's win bumps him up to ninth and cuts Ryan four points adrift at the bottom. Highest scoring game of the week was at Tesco Car Park Stadium where San Dimas went down 4-3 to the CFJs. Clint Dempsey was Chris's hero with his second hat-trick in three weeks. Gareth Bale got the other CFJs goal and Heidar Helguson, who'd already scored one spot-kick, missed a penalty which would have earned me a deserved point.

Week 16 (and Cup replay) results
FA Cup 1st round replay
The Fabulous Artisans 1 v 1 Final Fantasy XI
Still can't separate these two thanks to a Martin Skrtel clean depriving Ceri's team of an upset win. They'll try again this week.
League Week 16
Claymore Athletic FC 3 v 1 San Dimas High School
Final Fantasy XI 1 v 1 Fred West Landscape Gardening XI
Mega Buck Bandits 2 v 2 Real Muppets
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum 0 v 2 The Fabulous Artisans
The Cow-Faced Juniors 2 v 2 Athletico Phoenix
The Dead Parrots 2 v 1 The Cheese Makers
Trusted By Millions 1 v 2 Aardvark Abacus
York’s Returning Glory 0 v 7 You Know Your Boston Rock FC
Two clean sheets was all Ben needed to defeat Nil Satis this week and keep his clear blue water, seven points of it, at the head of affairs. It's just one league win in 11 for Paul who must be casting a nervous eye over his shoulder at the bottom of the table. The Aardvarks are now second after beating Trusted but don't seem to have played that well at all this season. Edin Dzeko had nodded Beef in front on 22 minutes but Luka Modric levelled early in the second half and a first WSFFL contribution from Stefan Savic in the shape of a clean won the game for Ady. Trusted are another yeam struggling in the league right now, they've just two wins in nine.
The Aardvarks have bumped Fred down to third after his team were held 1-1 by Final Fantasy. Danny Welbeck (is it one l or two, I'm sure I keep changing) getting the equaliser for Fred after Morten Gamst Pedersen had fired Ceri in front. Claymore had a ropey autumn but are back firing again now Clive's team are in fourth after three clean sheets gave him a comeback win over San Dimas after Theo Walcott had put me in front.
Boston Rock are still going the right way and slammed seven past York's. A good mix of contributors for Sheriff too with his 'old brigade' being joined on the scoresheet by Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer. I know our records are a bit patchy but this could be Julian's biggest ever defeat. A Mike Williamson clean sheet separated the Dead Parrots and The Cheese Makers after Damien Duff's opener for Dean was cancelled by Shane Long's penalty for Matthew. Both teams blowing hot and cold in recent weeks.
The CFJs came from two goals down to grab a point against Ahletico Phoenix. Robin van Persie and David Dunn had notched for Brian but Danny Graham and Mauro Formica scored in a ten-minute second half spell to earn Chris his sixth draw of the season. The Muppets were another team to find a point from two down. Mega Bucks had scored through their surprisingly effective front partnership of Fletcher and Morison but cleans from Joleon Lescott and Ashley Cole pulled Ryan a point closer to Nil Satis.

FA Cup 1st Round Results
Who's concentrating on the league then?
Aardvark Abacus 1 v 6 The Cow-Faced Juniors
Athletico Phoenix 1 v 5 Claymore Athletic FC
Final Fantasy XI 4 v 4 The Fabulous Artisans
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum 4 v 3 Fred West Landscape Gardening XI
San Dimas High School 2 v 3 Real Muppets
Trusted By Millions 3 v 1 The Dead Parrots
York's Returning Glory 2 v 1 Mega Buck Bandits
You Know Your Boston Rock FC 3 v 1 The Cheese Makers
I think it's appropriate to start with the holders, particularly as it will be my only chance to do so this season! I'm out. Ryan's team had made life difficult for themselves in recent weeks with own goals and opposition 'keepers scoring but made no mistake this week. San Dimas had come from two down to equalise through Hatem Ben Arfa and Heidar Helguson but an injury time winner from Jonas Gutierrez sees the Muppets into the last eight. Last season's runners-up, Claymore Athletic, looked like they were going to sweep all before them at the start of this season but have stuttered somewhat since. Clive was back to that early season ruthlessness when beating Charity Winners Athletico Phoenix. Wayne Rooney's early goal had been equalised by Jon Walters but Rooney again and Sergio Aguero gave Claymore some breathing space and a couple of cleans finished Brian off.
The Charity Shield runners-up have exited too. Dave's Mega Bucks losing to York's. Despite his often lowly league placings Julian can sometimes build up a head of steam in the Cup and get on a bit of a run. A Stephen Kelly clean one this won for him after his Craig Bellamy goal had been levelled by Steve Morison. PCMT Winners and league leaders the Artisans live to fight another day but were given a real scare by Final Fantasy. Three minutes after the break Ceri's team were 4-1 up through goals from Jackson, Jerome, Rangel and Larsson but Jonjo Shelvey reduced the deficit on 68 minutes then Leighton Baines earned Ben a replay with a penalty and a clean sheet.
Five-time winners Boston Rock left it late to progress to the last eight against the Cheese Makers. Jermain Defoe's early goal had been cancelled out by Juan Mata just after the break but just as this was drifting towards a Malaysian replay Andy Carroll and Frank Lampard scored for Sheriff in the final two minutes. The CFJs have been beaten finalists twice in the last three seasons and despite some poor league form they took the Aardvarks' scalp in no uncertain style. Ady can look to the debatable sending-off of Vincent Kompany in the 12th minute but his team were already two down by then. Clint Dempsey went on to complete a hat-trick for Chris.
Nil Satis came from 3-1 down to beat Fred 4-3. John Heitinga had given Paul an early lead but Welbeck, Kolarov and Dos Santos looked to have wrapped this one up in Fred's favour with three minutes to go. Three cleans from Coleman, O'Shea and that man Heitinga again completed an unlikely comeback for Paul's team and downed the champions. No doubt that Trusted are pleased to have Steven Gerrard back in the fold. His penalty on the stroke of half-time settled the nerves and Beef's team wrapped up their win over the Parrots late on with a brace from Ramires.

Week 15 Results
Halfway point of the season, Ben's lead is extended to six points.
Claymore Athletic FC 3 v 2 Real Muppets
Final Fantasy XI 2 v 3 Aardvark Abacus
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum 1 v 1 San Dimas High School
The Cow-Faced Juniors 0 v 3 The Cheese Makers
The Dead Parrots 1 v 4 You Know Your Boston Rock FC
The Fabulous Artisans 1 v 0 Fred West Landscape Gardening XI
Trusted By Millions 2 v 4 Mega Buck Bandits
York’s Returning Glory 4 v 3 Athletico Phoenix
Hugo Rodallega picked the right time to score his first goal of the season as far as Ben is concerned. It proved to be the only goal of the game against second place Fred West and extend the Artisans lead to six points. Fred stays second with the Aardvarks now a point behind in third. Ady needed a Vincent Kompany clean to win the game after his team and Final Fantasy shared four goals in 12 first half minutes.
The Cheese Makers are also on 26 points after brushing the struggling CFJs aside. Yohan Cabaye opened his WSFFL account and the scoring with a spectacular free-kick just after the break. Trusted are struggling too with only two victories in their last eight league games. Beef's team looked home and hosed with 12 minutes to go after goals from Sessegnon and Cahill but Mega Bucks hit back through Morison and Ward and then a laughable Phil Jones own goal finished the scoring in Dave's favour.
That win means Dave's team are off the bottom and the Muppets are back in that place. You know your luck's out when the opposition keeper scores as happened with Claymore's Tim Howard this week. Clive's team are sixth, which is two points are second. Athletico Phoenix suffered a setback in their title chase. Controversial midfielder Joey Barton opened the scoring and was then sent off (http://wsffl.blogspot.com/2009/09/wsffl-rulebook-how-score-is-worked-out.html) causing Brian's exclamation mark key to stick down with fury. Peter Crouch added two more before the break and David Vaughan notched one more for Julian late on which meant Brian's clean sheet fightback just came up short.
Boston Rock sometimes have problems down under (oo-er!) but made light work of the Parrots this time. Sheriff's team are eighth, only ten points behind. It's the closest the top half has been at this stage of the season for oooh, two years! Nil Satis looked to have picked up a much-needed win with Bobby Zamora's late strike but a Kyle Walker clean got me a point.

You Know Your Boston Rock FC 2 v 3 The Fabulous Artisans
Artisans stay top but need clean sheets to beat Boston Rock after Sheriff's team struck twice late on and seemed set to blow the title race to smithereens. Fred up to second after dispatching York's. Reigning champs looking ominous, I'm not sure they've hit top gear yet.
Trusted out of the top two for first time this season after being denied by two Muppets' cleans. Ryan's team off the bottom but another og cost them the win. Phoenix still very much in touch with the leaders. Van Persie (again) and Watson from the spot get Brian's goals that beat Nil Satis.
Aardvarks back to winning ways - scraping past the CFJs with a solitary clean from Jagielka. San Dimas beat Final Fantasy in identical circumstances with Distin the clean-getter for me.
A late Stilian Petrov goal for the Cheese Makers was equalised by a Tim Howard clean for Claymore. A draw not really hugely helpful to either. Two more from Yakubu gave the Parrots the verdict over the Mega Bucks. Dave drops to the bottom.
