2015/16 Co-Ord Round-up Part Eight (and last) - 1st to 4th

1st: Claymore Athletic FC (same place as last season)
What I said last season - Now the team by which all others must be judged
What happened - I think that statement still stands. Wrapped up the league with three games to go for the second season running but it would have taken quite a collapse before that. Actually only won two of the last seven with points records in sight. This team can hurt you in all sorts of ways and the addition of Dimitri Payet was a masterstroke. No team has won the title three years running - is that about to change?

Star Player: Sergio Aguero (23 goals)

2nd: Athletico Phoenix (up one on last season)
What I said last season - Were the squad players up to it when they had the chance?
What happened - Much the same really. When Brian's team were hit by injuries or suspension (I'm looking at you, Diego Costa) the replacements couldn't make the same impression. Athletico chased hard and were just three points behind with ten games to go but January to March brought just three league wins. Interesting to see where Brian goes in the market - big-name starters or slight upgrade on the subs?

Star Player: Riyad Mahrez (17 goals)

3rd: The Fabulous Artisans (up eight on last season)
What I said last season - Surely Ben's luck must change soon.
What happened - It changed, but a bit too late. The Artisans were 11th after week 19 but finished with 22 points from the possible last 27. That's title-winning form. So where did it all go right? Patrick can Aanholt chipped in regularly, Roberto Firmino upped his game and even Divock Origi was looking like a player before an unfortunate injury. Is this the platform for a real title thrust?

Star Player: Matteo Darmian (13 cleans)

4th: Fred West Landscape Gardening XI (down two)
What I said last season - Should be thereabouts next year.
What happened - Thereabouts but no better than that. And that despite retaining the FA Cup and beating our champions home and away in the league. Fred tried to offload Jermain Defoe before the season but ended up delighted there were no takers. Looked like being Clive's main challenger at one point but finished with two league wins in the last eight. The 2014/15 Eden Hazard might have made the difference rather than the 2015/16 imposter version.

Star Player: Jermain Defoe (15 goals)

2015/16 Co-Ord Round-up Part Six - 9th - 12th

9th: FCK2 (down two places on last season)
What I said last season - Disappointment: Not turning enough draws into wins
What happened - The draws got turned into defeats. Fourth place and six points behind after week 11 thanks to the goals of Harry Kane and cleans of Chris Smalling they slowly drifted downwards. About time the managerial duo opened the cheque book I reckon.

Star Player: Harry Kane (20 goals)

10th: Trusted By Millions (down six places)
What I said last season - The finger can be pointed at the forwards.
What happened - There weren't many forwards to point the finger at and Beef was short of fire-power again. He spent £25 in February on Benik Afobe, Lewis Grabban, Seydou Doumbia and Alberto Paloschi but they made little impression. Can he address the slump next season?

Star Player: Kasper Schmeichel (ten cleans)

11th: Real Muppets (down five places)
What I said last season - Another nearly season for Ryan.
What happened - Not even nearly this time. Ryan was unable to pay as much attention to the team as he would have liked and results suffered accordingly. If he is able to keep on to of this in 2016/17 there are a few decent players here and they could be our 'dark horses' of the season.

Star Player: Hector Bellerin (one goal, 14 cleans)

12th The Wateringhole Society (up two  places)
What I said last season - Much work ahead for the manager next term.
What happened - Boy, the manager did a lot of work! It was a new manager too. Kiran stepped in and cleared out the deadest of the Dead Parrots. He was hugely busy in the market and snapped up two of the season's impressive youngsters in Marcus Rashford and Alex Iwobi. They were in the top half until week 21 but had a late season slump. Despite that, there should be a lot of optimism going into Kiran's second campaign.

Star Player: Joe Hart (13 cleans)

2015/16 Co-Ord Round-up Part Five - 13th-16th

My assessment of the WSFFL teams starts with our bottom four:

13th: Mega Buck Bandits (up two places on last season)
What I said last season - Dave will hope he picks up another couple of good 'uns next season.
What happened - Well Michail Antonio certainly looks like he fits into that category. Record-signing Charlie Austin returned but failed to make an impression. Dave will likely be operating at the journeyman end of the market and looking to spring a few surprises.

Star Player: Wes Morgan (two goals, 13 cleans)

14th: Nil Satis Nisi Optimum (down two places)
What I said last season - The manager still belongs to the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' camp but also is the founder member of the 'oh! it's broke, it'll fix itself' society.
What happened - Paul tried to fix it by appointing son Dan as co-manager. That worked for a while but in a 'like father, like son' kind of way Dan's interest waned. Paul is back in sole charge next season - there's a half-decent squad in there somewhere.

Star Player: Eric Dier (three goals, eight cleans)

15th: Final Fantasy XI (down five places)
What I said last season - Disappointment: The lack of goals
What happened - Ceri did her best to remedy the situation with the signings of Callum Wilson, Cameron Jerome and Matt Richie among others. Wilson bagged an early hat-trick but lost most of the season to injury, Ritchie and Jerome didn't have pose of a goal threat. The manager handed in her notice and the incoming boss has work to do.

Star Player: Gareth McAuley (one goal, eight cleans)

16th: YTFIB (same place)
What I said last season - One defeat in the last seven. Can YTFIB carry this on to next season?
What happened - They didn't. It was all a bit deja vu for Julian. An awful start to the campaign, nine points after 21 games and then five wins in the last eight. Same again next year?

Star Player: Christian Fuchs (14 cleans)

2015/16 Co-Ord Round-up Part Seven - 5th - 8th

5th: The Cow-Faced Juniors (up four places on last season)
What I said last season - The manager will be reviewing his transfer policy before auction night.
What happened - Chris signed up his sons, Luc and Noah, to give him a hand with the hot-seat. This season's purchases were a bit more restrained, Virgil van Dijk a great acquisition, and the team picked up the Charity Shield and went on a late season charge. They looked set for second at one point but fell away. Next season could see them back at the sharp end.

Star Player: Virgil van Dijk (three goals, eight cleans)

6th: Aardvark Abacus (up two)
What I said last season - Maybe a clear-out of the old guard and some young blood is what's needed to lift them back up.
What happened - Adebayor, Jovetic, Nastasic, Coates. All cleared out.  Attacking replacements (Son, Niasse) don't seem a huge upgrade at the moment though. Ady's team bumped around between 4th and 7th just about all season based on an excellent defence. He'll know where he needs a touch of class to kick on.

Star Player: Nacho Monreal (14 cleans)

7th: San Dimas High School (down two)
What I said last season - Does the manager know his best team?
What happened - I knew my best team but ultimately it wasn't good enough. Six points behind at the half way mark and the the PCMT retained the scene was set for kicking on for a title charge. Vardy and Lukaku went quiet and the defence wasn't championship class. Work to do in that department for the boss.

Star Player: Jamie Vardy (17 goals)

8th: Cheese Makers (up five)
What I said last season - They'll be in the top half mix again next season if the strikers click.
What happened - Something clicked but it was a good all-round performance from Matthew's team. Huth was the star man but there were important contributions from Shane Long, Jose Fonte and Manuel Lanzini too. Can the Cheesers get their name on a trophy next term?

Star Player: Robert Huth (three goals, 11 cleans)

Hey, the Aardvarks win something!

Ady and Kiran both trimmed their squads (and wage bills) during the season and were easily top two in this table that counts for nothing.

The CFJs and Fred are down in the bottom three again but at least they both have cups to show for it.

2015/16 Co-Ord Round-up Part Two - Transfer dealings

How much fake money was spent on player deals last season?

Income

The total of almost £409m was down on last year's record but still one of our top three since I've been keeping track of this stuff. (2006/07 was the first year I have records.)

Three teams saw transfer receipts of over £50m and two more over £35m.

Expenditure

I'd thought it was a bit of a quieter year but a total of almost £555m is the second highest and only beaten by last year's record total.

It was fairly well spread but one team did blow £75.5m and two more almost £60m. At the other end of the scale three teams didn't outlay over £11m on players.

Business

After four successive seasons of declining losses that number was up this season, but only by £6m. Total transfer losses by our clubs totalling £146m. There are signs that teams are cutting their cloth according to their bank balances as only two teams turned in losses of over £20m.

One team made a profit (of less than £5m) while eight more's losses didn't exceed £10m.

Our ten season figures now show that every team is running at a loss of between £80m and £125m over that period. Is that kind of interesting or is it me?
