Report

A high-scoring final saw struggling Nil Satis earn a second chance against the league-leading CFJs. Paul S stuck with the team that has found league wins hard to come by while Chris and Co. had £63m of talent leading the line.

Nil Satis made the early running with Xherdan Shaqiri going close but on 25 minutes the favourites were in front from an unlikely source - Shkodran Mustafi left alone at the back post to score from a tight angle. One almost became two straight after when Eric Choupo-Moting was denied from close range by Jonas Lossl. Paul would have been relieved to get his team in at the break just one goal down but 52 seconds after the break the lead was doubled. Record signing Alvaro Morata was left with too much space in the Nil Satis box to convert trademark header.

This setback sparked Nil Satis into action. Andros Townsend scored from inside the box three minutes later to reduce the deficit and then, after going close twice, Marcos Alonso glanced in a header on the hour to level matters. Two minutes later it was the CFJs' turn to react. Alexis Sanchez scoring twice in five minutes, the second racing onto a ball that cut-out the whole Nil Satis defence, to restore a two-goal advantage. The CFJs failed to kill off their doughty opponents though and cleans from Man of the Match Alonso and Danilo meant the game finished 4-4 and the two sides will try to sort it out again this weekend.

Halfway through the season and the top two are opening a gap. The Muppets slammed Fred in the PCMT in midweek and did it again in the league. Mo Salah took his total for the season to 11 when opening the scoring for Fred just before the break but the last 20 minutes was all Ryan. Kevin de Bruyne slammed home with 20 minutes left and Raheem Sterling added two more to take him into double figures fro the season. Hector Bellerin and Andrea Christensen added cleans to add to Fred’s pain. The CFJs join the Muppets six points ahead of the rest after edging the third-place Aardvarks 1-0 thanks to Mesut Ozil’s stunning volley halfway through the first half.

San Dimas and the Artisans are fourth and fifth respectively after a 4-4 draw. Christian Benteke powered home a header after 19 minutes to open the scoring for Ben while headers from Dejan Lovren and Romelu Lukaku put me in front after another eight minutes. Jesse Lingard squared things up by the break and the Artisans were on the verge of the points after second-half goals from Roberto Firmino and Christian Eriksen. Cleans from Lovren and Gaetan Bong rescued a point for me. Claymore are sixth after edging Markian 3-2. A Gylfi Sigurdsson stunner had Markian ahead 20 minutes into the second half but Clive’s side hit back through Abdoulaye Doucoure and a Wayne Rooney penalty (Rooney had missed one late in the first half). Diafro Sakho got a late equaliser but Aaron Cresswell’s clean left Claymore on top.

It’s four league defeats in a row for Trusted after defeat against Mega Bucks. Dave has outstanding midfielders in Phillippe Coutinho and Wilf Zaha and they were both on target in the first half. Gary Cahill’s clean not enough for Beef’s team to get back on terms. Athletico had been in better form recently but ran into an improving YTFIB. Ilkay Gundogan stooped to head home on 14 minutes and Joe Gomez and Charlie Taylor added cleans for Julian.

The bottom two drew 2-2 to leave a five-point gap between the sides. Aaron Mooy opened the scoring for Kiran but Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Marcos Alonso scored for Paul in first-half injury time to put Nil Satis ahead. Mooy converted a penalty in the last minute to share the points. Cheese Makers and Wheel Madrid played out a goalless draw and stay 13th and 14th respectively.
