Report

Cheese Makers were playing in their first final, the Wateringhole just their second but there were no early nerves from either side. Carlos Soler crashed an early shot off the bar for Matthew's team and Callum Hudson-Odoi flashed an effort over for the Society after 11 minutes. Cheese went close again on 25 minutes when Andy Robertson's flick header hit a post but it was Kiran's side that went in at the break one up - Cody Gakpo was the scorer, curling in from the edge of the area.

That could have knocked the Cheese off their stride but they were level four minutes after the restart when Curtis Jones sidefooted in a sharp cross from six yards. Gakpo thought he'd restored the lead on 68 minutes but was denied by an offside in the build-up. As the game headed into injury time Rico Lewis blazed over  and a Christopher Nkunku header was clawed away by the Cheese keeper.

The Cornwall side must have thought that had delivered them a second crack at the trophy but the Wateringhole delivered a Jon Paul van Hecke clean sheet and it's Kiran that will take the trophy back to his new Okus Stadium.

The CFJs are the WSFFL Christmas number one in an incredibly tight hit parade. The Cows beat YTFIB 2-0  to take top spot while last week’s leaders, Markian United were held 2-2 by Claymore in a PCMT Final dress rehearsal that drops Ian’s team to second.

Cheese Makers are a point behind those two after beating Mega Bucks 3-1, Jacob Murphy with a debut goal for Matthew. The Muppets are fourth after a 4-1 win at Wheel Madrid. Ryan’s team fell behind but four clean sheets got him home.

Like their opponents, the Wateringhole Society aren’t short of goals going into the PCMT Final against Cheese Makers but Kiran’s team were on the wrong end of a 5-3 scoreline against Trusted. Two early goals from Gabriel Jesus and a first WSFFL hat-trick from Alexander Isak see Beef just four points off the top. Two goals from Mohamed Salah had GC TotW in complete control at 3-0 up against Nil Satis but Paul found three clean sheets to grab a draw.

SGU and the Aardvarks fought out a 2-2 draw, Aaron’s team coming from behind twice to defy Ady’s team. The Artisans’ slump continues with a 2-0 defeat to San Dimas. Anthony Elanga got his first goal of the season for my team.

After fluffing his lines a couple of times already this season with the top of the table in sight, Ian finally made it to the summit. It was his best performance of the season as well, a 5-2 win at Cheese Makers with Ismaila Sarr scoring twice. A second defeat for Ollie followed hot on the heels of the first in the shape of a 3-1 loss to The Wateringhole Society. Kiran’s team are up to second thanks to. coincidentally, the same scorers as the Charity Shield replay.

The CFJs fell off the top spot going down 3-2 to last year’s champs the Aardvarks. Jhon Duran, Son Heung-Min and the returning Diogo Jota got the goals that keep Ady believing in the chance of a repeat. The Muppets appear to be recovering after a blip. Ryan’s team put the Artisans away 4-1, an unlucky Marc Guehi own goal not helping Ben’s team who are suddenly having a blip of their own.

Trusted are back in the top half with Alexander Isak’s goal proving the decider in a 1-0 win over YTFIB. SGU’s recent purple patch came screeching to a halt with a 4-1 defeat to bottom team Wheel Madrid. James Maddison starred with two first half goals for Paul W.

Claymore took the spoils in the ‘Bluenose’ derby with a 3-1 win. A deflection off Matt Doherty put Nil Satis behind after 15 minutes and there was no way back. San Dimas are top of the bottom four after beating, and overtaking, Mega Bucks. A fantastic late free-kick by Enes Unal for me was the highlight of this one.

Ollie is off the top and the CFJs are our new leaders. The Cows got the win they needed, 2-1 at Wheel Madrid. Yoane Wissa put Chris and Co, ahead in the first half, Tomas Soucek and Chris Wood swapped looping headers in the second period and the scoring ended there. Cheese Makers are up to second following a 3-2 victory at Claymore. An explosive start to this one at Chippenham Park saw the Cheese 2-1 up after eight minutes. It ws 2-2 after eighteen when Rasmus Hojlund followed up to bring Clive level but Matthew got a second half winner when Rico Lewis picked out the top corner.

Garth Crooks TotW have dropped to third after a 3-1 defeat at the improving YTFIB. All the goals came after the break. Nathan Collins was unmarked in the penalty area to put Julian ahead, Bruno Fernandes equalised five minutes later. Jamie Vardy and Kevin Schade got the goals in the last five minutes to end Ollie’s unbeaten run, the team not able to cover the missing Mo Salah. Markian drop to fourth after going down 3-0 to San Dimas. Jadon Sancho’s solo goal showed a glimpse of why I paid big money for him, Yankubah Minteh bamboozled Ian’s defence with 11 minutes left and Emi Martinez capped the win with a clean.

The Wateringhole have closed on the leaders thanks to a 3-1 win over Nil Satis. Dejan Kulusevski and Harvey Barnes were on target in the first half, William Saliba prodded in the third before Matt Doherty found a reply for Paul S. The Artisans dropped to sixth after defeat to SGU. Conor Chaplin scored his first WSFFL goal to put Aaron in front and no sooner had Ben’s team equalised through Jarrod Bowen he was 2-1 down after Enzo Fernandez smashed in a half-volley. Harry Maguire’s clean made it 3-1 to SGU and they join the Artisans on 20 points.

The Muppets fall to eighth after a 2-1 loss at Mega Bucks. Erling Haaland’s header looked to have made it a routine win for Ryan’s team but Dango Ouattara equalised deep in injury time and Lucas Digne got a winning clean for Dave.Trusted are tenth, just seven points off the top, after beating the Aardvarks 4-3. After goals from Alexander Isak and Tariq Lamptey either side of a Jhon Duran reply were equalised by an early Ian Maatsen clean, two penalties from Cole Palmer (the second a cheeky Panenka) stretched Beef’s lead to 4-2. A goal from Son Heung-Min in injury time only a consolation for Ady.
