Cup semi-final Results

Paul Cartmell Memorial Trophy Semi-finals

Claymore Athletic FC 5 v 1 The Cow-Faced Juniors
Markian United 2 v 0 Mega Buck Bandits

Markian United left it late to make a final for the first time. Ian’s game against Mega Bucks looked destined to end in a nervy goalless draw until Dave’s keeper misjudged a free kick and Fabian Schar stretched to convert from a tight angle. Maxime Lacroix soon followed up with a clean to complete the win.

It was ultimately an easier night for Claymore. When Clive picked Ashley Young up in October I’m sure he thought of him as a stop-gap but the veteran proved his worth with a goal and a clean. That goal was a free-kick after 10 minutes and Claymore’s other full-back, Matty Cash, doubled the lead on 34 minutes, firing in at the far post. The CFJs were given hope 11 minutes from time when a corner went in off Matt O’Riley’s back but the two goal lead was restored with Trevoh Chalobah’s clean. More cleans from Young and Daniel Munoz fired Clive into his fourth PCMT Final.

Charity Shield Semi-finals

Stanley and Gracie United 0 v 4 Cheese Makers
The Wateringhole Society 3 v 3 YTFIB

Replay

YTFIB 3 v 3 The Wateringhole Society

Second Replay

The Wateringhole Society 3 v 0 YTFIB

After a tight first-half Cheese Makers eased away from SGU to make their WSFFL final. Curtis Jones timed his run into the box perfectly to shoot high into the net five minutes after the break to open the scoring and Jannik Vestergaard’s early clean doubled the lead ten minutes later. Aaron’s team couldn’t find a reply and David Raya Martin and Rico Lewis got cleans to make it a 4-0 win for Matthew.

Guess what? Julian’s team are in another replay! YTFIB had the Wateringhole on the back-foot early on in this one. Jamie Vardy beat the offside trap and Alex Iwobi pounced on a keeping error to put YTFIB two up inside five minutes. Another goalkeeper blunder saw Christopher Nkunku pass the ball into a vacant net to reduce the deficit at the break and it was level after 73 minutes when William Saliba headed in from a corner. YTFIB weren’t finished. Iwobi got his second, finding the far corner from 15 yards, with three minutes left to have Julian’s team on the verge of the final. A clean from Saliba gave Kiran another attempt this weekend.

A fine comeback from 3-0 down earned Julian another replay. Kiran’s team were cruising early in the second half after William Saliba’s tap-in but Nathan Collins was left alone to pull one back inside four minutes. Jamie Vardy and Kevin Schade got the goals in the last five minutes to make sure of another twist in the tale.

In the second replay, goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Cody Gakpo, plus a William Saliba clean finally saw off Julian and gets Kiran into his second Charity Shield Final.
